To convert humming into MIDI, record a clear solo vocal melody, submit the recording to a transcription tool that exports MIDI, then check and correct the notes in a MIDI editor. The listed tools do not explicitly document a dedicated humming-to-MIDI mode, so confirm that a service accepts humming before relying on it; Melody Scanner, Songscription, Klangio Transcription Studio, and MuScriptor each document relevant recording or transcription capabilities and MIDI export.
Prepare A Humming Recording
- Hum one melody at a time. Leave out lyrics, harmony, accompaniment, and background music so the pitch sequence is easier to distinguish.
- Use a steady tempo and hold each note clearly. Leave a short pause before and after the melody, and avoid moving the microphone while recording.
- Record a short phrase first, such as “da—da-da—daa,” with a clear rise on the second note and a longer final note. This gives you an easy result to compare against what you hummed.
- Save the recording in a format the chosen service accepts. The listed information does not establish supported recording formats for every tool, so check its upload requirements.
Choose A Transcription Route
These tools have overlapping transcription and export capabilities, but none is documented specifically as a humming recognizer. Check each vendor’s current instructions for voice recordings, humming input, and MIDI export before uploading a full piece.

Convert The Clip And Inspect The MIDI
- Open the selected service and upload the short humming clip or record through its browser interface if available. Songscription documents browser recordings; for other capture methods and accepted files, check the vendor’s instructions.
- Choose the melody or vocal transcription option if the interface offers one. The listed tool details do not establish a shared set of settings, so use only controls the service actually presents.
- Review the transcription as notation or a note display before exporting. Compare the opening, the highest note, and the held final note with your original hum; listen for missed notes or extra notes between them.
- Export the result as MIDI where the service supports it and your plan allows it. Save a separate copy of the original recording so you can revisit uncertain passages.
- Open the MIDI in your preferred MIDI editor or music software. Correct wrong pitches, note starts, and note lengths by listening alongside the original hum. The transcription services listed here do not establish specific downstream editor compatibility.
Fix Common Humming Transcription Errors
- Extra or repeated notes: Hum the phrase again with more separation between notes and less breath noise, then compare the new transcription.
- Wrong octave: Check whether the melody’s contour is right but the whole phrase sits too high or low. Move the notes together by an octave in your MIDI editor if needed.
- Unsteady timing: Repeat the phrase at an even pulse, with a small pause between phrases. Adjust note starts and lengths after export rather than assuming the transcription captured your intended rhythm.
- Several simultaneous notes: Reduce the recording to one hummed line. Melody Scanner does not separate multiple instruments, and Songscription does not support full-band or orchestral transcription.
Check Access And Recording Rights
Melody Scanner lists MIDI export as a paid-subscription feature. MuScriptor is free, but its model weights use a non-commercial CC BY-NC 4.0 license; check the vendor’s terms for the intended use. If someone else hums the recording, get their consent before recording or uploading it, and check each platform’s terms for its handling and permitted use of uploaded audio. Pricing, plan requirements, current input support, and licensing details can change; verify them with the vendor before use.
