To separate vocals from a song, upload an audio file to a stem separator, choose its vocal or vocal-and-instrumental option, process it, then download and listen to the vocal stem. Moises is a practical starting point if you want web, desktop, or phone access; Fadr offers a free starting point with basic stem separation and MP3 downloads.
Choose A Workflow For Your Devices
All of these tools are listed for music stem separation, but their device support and output options differ. Pick the workflow that fits where your song file is and where you want to edit or listen to the result.

Prepare The Song File
Use an audio file you are allowed to process. Before uploading, check the file length and size against the tool’s stated limits, and keep an untouched copy so you can compare the separated result with the original. The available information does not establish support for every file format, import source, or device model; check the vendor’s site for those specifics.
Separate The Vocal
- Open the tool on the device you plan to use. For phone access, Moises lists iOS and Android apps; for a local desktop workflow, StemDeck lists Windows, macOS, and Linux, while RipX lists Windows and macOS.
- Upload or open your song file. Choose the file from your device using the tool’s available import flow. The details here do not establish integrations with smart speakers, network storage, or every music library, so check the vendor’s site if your file is stored in one of those places.
- Select vocal separation. Choose the vocal stem or a vocal-and-instrumental split if offered. Moises, Fadr, LALAL.AI, UnMixLabs, AudioStem.ai, StemDeck, and RipX list vocal separation or vocal output; exact labels and available models can vary by plan.
- Run the separation and inspect the result. Listen to the vocal stem from beginning to end. Check quiet openings, overlapping instruments, and the loudest sections for instrumental sounds left behind or vocal details that sound damaged. A separated stem is an extracted part of a mixed recording, so do not assume it will sound like a clean studio recording.
- Download or export the vocal stem. Choose an output format the tool makes available on your plan. Moises lists MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, and OGG exports; Fadr Basic lists MP3 downloads and Plus adds WAV; UnMixLabs lists WAV, MP3, and FLAC; RipX lists WAV, MP3, and AIFF. Check the vendor’s site for the formats available to your account.
- Play it on your intended device. Open the exported file in an audio player or editor you already use and check that it plays at the expected length. The listed tool details do not establish compatibility with a particular smart speaker or home-audio system; check that device’s supported file formats and transfer options.
Adjust The Workflow If The Vocal Needs Work
Listen For Room Echo
If the separated voice has audible reverberation, UnMixLabs lists vocal dereverberation and restoration processing. Demixr also combines vocal isolation with dereverberation, but it is web-only; its free plan has queued processing and no WAV downloads. These features are worth considering when echo is the specific issue, though no result quality is established here.

Work With The Stem In A Desktop Editor
RipX DAW lists note-level edits for pitch, timing, key, tempo, effects, panning, volume, and EQ. Use those controls only if you need to edit the extracted vocal; they do not guarantee that artifacts from separation can be removed. RipX DAW starts at a $99 one-time purchase, and advanced repair, scripts, and DAW plug-ins require the PRO edition.
Compare Before Paying For Downloads
LALAL.AI’s free Starter plan provides result previews but not full downloads. That makes it possible to check a preview before choosing whether its paid workflow suits you; batch processing is listed only on paid plans. Check the vendor’s site for current plan details before buying.
