To make an R&B or soul song with AI, start with your own lyrical idea, generate a few vocal and instrumental drafts, then shape the strongest draft into a song with a clear groove, memorable hook, and room for the vocal. A practical route is Suno for a complete first draft, Beat Shaper or Soundverse AI Beat Maker for a more editable rhythm bed, and Eleven Music for detailed section revisions and producer focused exports. You can do the core workflow in a browser; Suno and Soundverse AI Beat Maker also list mobile apps.
Step 1: Decide What You Want The Song To Feel Like
Before opening a generator, write down the emotional center and the scene of the song. R&B and soul cover many arrangements and moods, so a prompt such as “make a soulful song” leaves the model little to work with. Pick a point of view, a vocal character, and a groove. For example: an intimate late night confession, a warm midtempo pocket, and a lead vocal that sounds restrained in the verse and opens up at the chorus.
Use concrete musical directions rather than relying on artist names. Describe whether the drums should feel laid back or tightly syncopated, whether the bass should be prominent, and whether the arrangement should leave space between vocal phrases. Decide whether you want a full vocal song, an instrumental to sing over, or a beat to finish in a DAW. Keep a short written brief nearby so you can judge generations against the same target.

Write a chorus idea first, even if it is only a few lines. R&B songs depend on a hook that can carry emotion through repetition, so use a phrase that feels natural to sing and build the verses around what changes before and after it. Mark the structure in plain language: intro, verse, pre-chorus, chorus, second verse, chorus, bridge, final chorus, outro. You can shorten that map if the song should feel like a compact demo.

Use your own lyrics or ask an AI lyric feature for a starting point, then revise the lines so the point of view, phrasing, and imagery belong to your song. Suno and Eleven Music both list song generation with lyrics or vocals. AI Song Maker accepts prompts or user provided lyrics and includes voice, vibe, genre, and tempo controls. Treat generated lyrics as draft material: check every line for meaning, awkward phrasing, and accidental resemblance to a known lyric before keeping it.
Step 3: Generate A Full Vocal Sketch
Open Suno and describe the sound, arrangement, vocal delivery, and section map in one prompt. State the genre combination plainly, such as contemporary R&B with soul phrasing, then specify the feel of the groove, the instruments you want in the foreground, and how the chorus should lift. Include your lyrics if you have them. Generate alternatives, listen for a believable vocal rhythm and a chorus that is easy to remember, and keep the best draft as a reference rather than treating it as finished.

Suno supports editing, remixing, extensions, section replacement, and stem export. Its Free Plan has 50 credits per day and allows an audio upload up to 8 minutes; the directory entry says the free plan does not include commercial rights or stem separation. Pro is listed from $8 per month, with 2,500 credits per month and downloads limited to 20 songs per month. Check Suno’s current plan terms before relying on a feature or using a track commercially.
Step 4: Make The Groove More Specific
If the complete-song draft has the right mood but the rhythm feels generic, build a more deliberate instrumental. In Beat Shaper, generate editable drums, basslines, synths, loops, or arrangements, then use its piano roll and controls for genre, mood, energy, and syncopation to move the pocket toward your brief. Try a relaxed backbeat with selective syncopation rather than filling every beat; leave gaps where a singer can answer the rhythm.

Beat Shaper is browser based. Its Starter plan lists 32 MIDI clips, and Starter downloads are limited to MP3 and noncommercial use. The Creator plan is listed at €9 per month and includes unlimited generations, MIDI, MP3, and WAV downloads, unlimited song lengths, and commercial usage rights. Ableton Live project export and real time MIDI require Producer. Confirm the current plan terms if those exports matter to your setup.
For a mobile friendly instrumental workflow, try Soundverse AI Beat Maker. It generates complete instrumentals with drums, basslines, melodies, and arrangements, and lists WAV mixes, separated stems, and MIDI for further editing. It is available on web, iOS, and Android, with a browser based multitrack studio. The Free Tier starts with 1,000 tokens upon signup; the Creator & Pro entry lists unlimited generations, studio multitrack access, stem export, and commercial licenses. Step 5: Refine The Vocal And Arrangement
Once you have a sketch or groove, revise one musical problem at a time. If the chorus arrives too soon, extend the arrangement or replace that section. If the verse vocal is too busy, simplify the lyric or ask for a more restrained delivery. If the song needs a lift, specify what changes at the chorus: stronger drums, fuller harmony, a higher vocal intensity, or a contrasting backing texture. Avoid piling unrelated requests into one edit, since it becomes harder to tell which change helped.
Eleven Music is suited to this editing stage: it generates full songs with AI vocals, lyrics, or instrumentals and lists section editing, inpainting, genre transitions, audio references, stems, and MP3/WAV exports. It is available through web and API. The Free plan lists 10,000 credits per month and is limited to personal use and browse only Marketplace access. Paid commercial rights vary by plan and exclude film, TV, and studio games, so check the applicable terms before using a track outside personal work.

As an alternative for prompt led song drafts, Udio can generate vocal or instrumental songs from text prompts and lyrics, edit lyrics, blend voice references, and extend or transform audio in Sessions. Its Free plan lists 10 daily credits and 100 monthly credits. Audio, video, and stem downloads are disabled during its stated transition period, so do not choose it for a workflow that depends on exporting those files; check the vendor for current availability.
Step 6: Move From A Demo To A DAW Session
Choose the tool according to what you need to edit after generation. For separate parts and a DAW based beat workflow, use Beat Shaper or Soundverse AI Beat Maker for their listed MIDI or stem options. For song level revisions and stems, Eleven Music lists producer focused exports. Suno lists stem export, though not on its Free Plan. Import only the files your chosen plan actually provides, then arrange the vocal, drums, bass, and supporting parts so the lead remains clear. A phone can be useful for capturing a melody or auditioning a draft; use the browser based studio or a DAW workflow when you need to inspect individual parts.
Listen on headphones and on the speakers you normally use at home. Check whether the bass remains audible at low playback volume, whether the vocal is easy to understand, and whether the chorus feels larger without becoming crowded. If the generated track is a single mix, you may not be able to change each instrument independently; select a workflow that lists stems or MIDI when that control is important.

Use lyrics you wrote or have permission to use. Do not clone or imitate an identifiable singer’s voice without that person’s consent; voice cloning and voice references need careful handling. Before publishing, check the specific platform terms for your plan, track, and intended use. The product entries establish different limits: Suno’s free plan lacks commercial rights, Eleven Music’s free plan is personal use only and paid rights have stated exclusions, and Beat Shaper’s Starter downloads are noncommercial. Soundverse AI Beat Maker lists commercial licenses on Creator & Pro. These statements do not establish the rights for every other plan or every use case.
Save the prompt, lyric version, and the final exports together so you can identify which draft you chose and what you changed. If your audience is mainly on phones, audition the final mix on a phone speaker as well as headphones; if you plan to keep developing it, retain the editable MIDI or stems offered by the selected tool and preserve the original draft separately.
