Loch’s Capsule can wash dishes without a permanent water connection: fill its external clean-water tank, then route wastewater to a sink or an optional second tank. Its standout advantage is its unusually narrow 10.3-inch width. The trade-offs are a two-place-setting certified capacity, manual water handling, a US listed price of $390.99, and unresolved differences in published water-use and drying specifications.
It makes the most sense for a solo household, renter, or office where a wider countertop dishwasher will not fit or cannot be connected. It is not a compact substitute for a family-size dishwasher.
What the Capsule is—and what “without plumbing” means
The Capsule is a portable countertop dishwasher, not a built-in unit or a conventional full-size portable dishwasher. Loch also markets it as a fruit-and-vegetable washer and a UV-C sanitizing cabinet. Those extra functions may be useful, but they do not change its core limitation: it is designed for small loads.

- Connect the outlet hose and place its end securely in a sink or suitable wastewater container.
- Load the dishes, select a program, and start the machine.
So “no plumbing” means no permanent hookup is required—not that the machine needs no hoses, filling, or drainage. You still need an electrical outlet, a stable water-resistant surface, and somewhere safe for wastewater to go. For a more self-contained setup away from a sink, Loch sells an optional second tank; it is not part of the standard package. Alternatively, the machine can connect to a water supply with a separately sold plumbing hose. Loch lists a G3/4 connector and a hose about five feet long, but buyers should check faucet threads, adapters, water pressure, and drainage compatibility rather than assume it fits every tap. Measure the counter—and the open door
Loch lists the US model at 10.3 inches wide, 18.3 inches high, and 20.3 inches deep. It weighs 26 pounds. The door-open length is 32.9 inches, so the machine needs substantially more room in front when loading or unloading than its closed depth suggests. Its internal rack is about 7.9 inches wide. The included inlet and outlet hoses are approximately 2.62 and 3.9 feet long, respectively. Check the current US product specifications before ordering.

The machine is movable, but 26 pounds before adding water, dishes, and accessories is not effortless portability. For an RV or off-grid installation, also consider how it will be secured on a level surface, how it will drain, and whether the available power supply suits the appliance.

Loch advertises room for up to 25 items, or up to 35 with the optional Dual Tray. Those are item counts, not standardized place settings. ENERGY STAR classifies certified model L1126 as a compact dishwasher with a capacity of two place settings. Both numbers can be true: a carefully arranged load of small pieces can have a high item count while still holding only a modest meal’s worth of dishes. The ENERGY STAR record is the more useful standardized capacity measure.

In practical terms, it may suit one person’s plates, bowl, mug, glass, utensils, and a small pan, or two people’s lighter daily dishes. Loch says it can accommodate a 12-inch frying pan, a deep cast-iron pot around 12 by 3.3 inches, and bottles up to about 11 inches tall. But large cookware takes up a meaningful share of a rack only about 7.9 inches wide; fitting a pan may mean leaving out several smaller items. The optional Dual Tray may help with small-item loading, but the advertised 35-item maximum depends on that accessory and careful arrangement.
If you regularly cook with large pots, wash baking trays, or need to clear a family’s dishes in one run, a wider countertop model—or a full-size dishwasher—is a better category to compare. The Capsule’s narrow footprint is gained partly by giving up conventional rack width and capacity.
How fast is the 15-minute wash?
Loch advertises a 15-minute Quick Wash, not a promise that every load will be thoroughly cleaned and completely dry in 15 minutes. The product page lists programs including Quick, Gentle, Daily, Heavy Duty, Intensive Clean, Eco, and Glass, as well as fruit-washing and UV sanitation options. Choose the cycle for the soil and load: a short program is most plausible for lightly or normally soiled dishes, while greasy, crowded, or dried-on food may call for a longer wash.
Independent testing reported effective results on a longer cycle, while the reviewer often preferred the 15- and 30-minute options. That is useful context, but it is not evidence that a quick cycle will handle every kind of mess. Scrape food residue before loading, avoid crowding the spray path, and clean the filter when needed.

Cleaning, UV-C, and drying are separate claims
Loch lists double water-jet sprayers, a three-stage debris filter, a stainless-steel interior, a rinse-aid dispenser, and wash temperatures up to 167°F. Those are manufacturer specifications; they do not eliminate the importance of sensible loading, suitable detergent, and filter maintenance. Loch recommends roughly 0.18–0.35 ounces of powder, gel, or liquid detergent and cautions that full-size pods may be too strong for the machine’s low-water design. Follow the current manual’s dosing instructions rather than assuming a standard dishwasher pod is appropriate.
The UV-C feature is a separate set of programs. Loch lists a wavelength range of 265–275 nanometers and describes water-free cycles for items such as phones, keys, bottles, masks, mail, and textiles, with different exposure times for hard surfaces and paper or fabric. UV effectiveness depends on exposure: shadows, distance, surface condition, and placement matter. Objects hidden behind other items may not receive direct light. Treat this as a manufacturer-described sanitizing feature, not a guarantee of clinical sterilization or a substitute for medical or food-safety procedures.
Drying specifications deserve particular caution. Loch’s current US page says the Capsule has fan-assisted drying. The ENERGY STAR record for model L1126, however, lists the drying method as “None,” and an older independent review described drying as limited. The discrepancy may reflect certification terminology, configuration, or a different model/version; available evidence does not resolve it. If completely dry dishes—especially plasticware—are essential, verify the exact model and manual before buying. Do not assume the advertised 15-minute cycle means every item will emerge bone-dry.

There are two different water figures worth keeping distinct. Loch says the Quick Wash uses 0.7 gallons. ENERGY STAR lists 1.0 gallon per cycle for certified model L1126, along with 80 kWh per year and two place settings. The certification record also says the model uses 71% less water than the applicable federal standard. These figures relate to their respective stated cycle or certification framework; 0.7 gallons should not be presented as the consumption of every program.

Loch also advertises 137–184 Wh per cycle, depending on mode, and an annual operating cost of about $11 under its assumed usage pattern. Those are manufacturer estimates, and actual costs vary with electricity rates and how often and which cycles you run. Savings versus hand-washing depend on the amount of water used at the sink, whether dishes are pre-rinsed, how hot water is heated, and local water and energy prices. ENERGY STAR certification supports the listed model’s performance under its testing framework; it does not independently verify every marketing comparison or claim about household savings.

Loch lists noise at about 60 dB for the US page; its UK page gives about 58 dB. These are regional listing figures, not a universal value. The company says the door does not automatically open and that steam releases gradually through vents. Keep the machine level and place it where a leak or spill will not damage cabinetry, electronics, or an unprotected shelf.
The US package includes the dishwasher, main rack, fruit basket, cutlery holder, clean-water tank, inlet and outlet hoses, and manual. Loch’s listed optional accessories include a second water tank ($69), Dual Tray ($22.25), and plumbing hose ($22). At the US page’s listed sale price of $390.99 (regular price shown as $459.99), the second tank is worth considering if you need to collect wastewater away from a sink; it is unnecessary if the included hose can drain conveniently into one. The Dual Tray is optional, not a prerequisite for washing dishes. Prices and availability can change, so check the live listing.
Tank-fed convenience also creates routine chores. Scrape food, clean the three-stage filter, empty and dry wastewater containers, and check hoses for kinks or leaks. Refill rinse aid as needed; in hard-water areas, follow the manual’s advice on descaling and cleaning. Dry and ventilate the tanks and interior when the machine will sit unused so water does not stagnate. Transparent external tanks are easier to inspect, but they still need cleaning.

Before purchasing, read the current warranty, return window, parts policy, and service arrangements. A single online report of a failure and a difficult return is anecdotal, not evidence of a general defect rate, but repair logistics matter for a less familiar appliance brand—especially if you plan to depend on it in an RV or remote location.
Capsule versus other options
Compare by the problem you need to solve, not just by product category. Farberware’s tank-fed countertop models, such as the FDW05ASBWHA family, offer a more conventional countertop format; the relevant manual describes a tank requiring about 5–6 liters, depending on model. Danby countertop models are another conventional-format option. HAVA also sells tank-fed models. Exact capacity, dimensions, drying, and hookup arrangements vary by model, so check the particular manual and current specifications rather than assuming the brand name tells the whole story.
Daan Tech’s Bob Mini is a premium compact alternative with a different design and feature set. For any alternative, verify regional availability, accessory or consumable requirements, warranty, and service before treating it as a like-for-like choice. A wider countertop model may be a better value if it fits your counter and you care more about capacity than narrowness. Hand-washing costs less upfront and takes no counter space, but its water and heated-energy use depends heavily on technique; there is no universal savings comparison without a defined baseline.

Who should buy the Loch Capsule?
- Good fit: solo households, renters, small offices, and people with a very narrow counter and no dishwasher hookup who are willing to fill and drain tanks.
- Potential fit: two-person households with modest dish volume, or RV users who have checked the available power, secure placement, water storage, drainage, and warranty logistics.
- Poor fit: families, heavy cookware users, people who need large loads washed at once, or buyers who expect consistently bone-dry plasticware without verifying the model’s drying performance.
- Compare first: anyone with space for a wider countertop dishwasher, a suitable faucet connection, or a priority on low price, greater capacity, or familiar local service.
The Capsule’s strongest case is its 10.3-inch width combined with the option to run from a tank. Its main compromises are limited standardized capacity, manual water management, a premium price relative to basic countertop choices, and inconsistent published drying information. Buy it because those space and installation advantages solve a real problem—not because “25 or 35 items” or “15 minutes” makes it equivalent to a full-size dishwasher.
