Philips Hue’s announced price increase was real, but it was U.S.-specific and took effect on July 1, 2025. Signify, Hue’s parent company, said tariffs were the direct reason and warned that additional tariffs could trigger further changes. The original announcement did not publish one percentage increase or a complete old-versus-new price list, and the July 1 deadline is now historical.
What Signify announced
Signify said it would raise prices across its Philips Hue portfolio in the United States effective July 1, 2025, “as a direct result of tariffs,” according to Hueblog’s report reproducing the company’s statement. Signify said it remained committed to Hue’s product quality and features and reserved the right to make further price changes if new or additional tariffs took effect.
The announcement did not establish a universal percentage increase. It also did not provide a complete SKU-by-SKU schedule of pre-increase and post-increase prices.
Was this a worldwide increase?
No. The documented announcement covered the U.S. Philips Hue portfolio. It should not be presented as proof that prices rose by the same amount in Canada, Europe, or other markets. Signify routinely publishes separate regional prices; for example, its June 2025 Play Wall Washer announcement listed different U.S. and European prices: $219.99 for one U.S. unit and $384.99 for a two-pack.

Which Hue products were covered?
“The Hue portfolio” is broad. The announcement did not limit the change to bulbs made in one country or to a particular product family. Potentially affected categories included:
- White and White Ambiance bulbs
- White-and-color bulbs
- Light strips, lamps, fixtures, and outdoor lighting
- Starter kits and Hue Bridge hardware
- Switches and motion sensors
- Play and other entertainment-lighting products
- Hue Sync hardware and apps
- Hue Secure cameras, sensors, and accessories
That wording confirms portfolio-wide scope, not an identical increase for every item. A reliable product-level comparison requires archived Philips Hue or retailer prices for the same SKU before and after July 1, 2025.
Reference prices published after the increase
Signify’s September 2025 lineup announcement provides useful U.S. reference prices, but these figures are not automatically proof of a July tariff increase. Some may represent new products, revised bundles, or later list prices.

How tariffs can change a smart-lighting price
Tariffs can increase the landed cost of imported products or components. A manufacturer can absorb that cost, renegotiate suppliers, change sourcing, reduce margin, or pass some or all of it to customers. Signify confirmed its decision to adjust U.S. prices, but the available statement does not show the tariff cost embedded in each SKU, the sourcing of every product, or a common pass-through rate.
Retail prices can also diverge from manufacturer list prices because of promotions, old inventory, bundles, regional stock, and retailer-specific pricing. Signify’s U.S. terms state that the price charged is the price in effect when an order is placed and that listed prices may change without notice: U.S. terms of sale.

Was buying before July 1, 2025 sensible?
For a shopper who had already chosen a specific product, could find it at the then-current price, and bought from a reputable seller with clear returns and warranty terms, purchasing before the deadline could have avoided a later list-price change. It was not automatically the cheapest strategy: retailers could discount old inventory, bundles could have a lower per-bulb cost, and newer products could launch at different prices. Coverage urging readers to buy early appeared before the deadline, including TechTimes’ contemporaneous report; that advice is no longer a current reason to buy immediately.

Hue remains strongest when the buyer values an established, expandable system rather than the lowest per-bulb cost.
Reasons to choose Hue
- Large ecosystem of bulbs, fixtures, switches, sensors, and outdoor products
- Mature app, scenes, automations, and color-lighting capabilities
- Strong entertainment options, including Play products and Sync hardware
- Integration with Alexa, Google Assistant, Apple HomeKit, and Hue accessories, as described by Signify
- Bridge-based operation for buyers who prefer not to rely entirely on cloud-connected Wi-Fi bulbs
Reasons to consider alternatives
- A whole-home installation can become expensive once bulbs, Bridge hardware, switches, and sensors are added.
- Buyers who do not need color scenes or entertainment synchronization may get adequate lighting for less elsewhere.
- A proprietary ecosystem can be a poor fit for shoppers seeking maximum hardware flexibility or the lowest replacement cost.
- Bridge, hub, Matter, and platform requirements vary by product generation; verify the exact model before buying.
Alternatives for different priorities

Decision guide for today’s buyers
Existing Hue owners
Staying with Hue avoids duplicate hubs, apps, and automations. Compare the current SKU price and any retailer promotion before expanding.
First-time or whole-home buyers
Count bulbs, color versus tunable-white models, Bridge hardware, switches, sensors, and replacement units. Multiply the difference across every room before choosing an ecosystem.
Entertainment-lighting buyers
Budget for both the lights and synchronization hardware. The Play Wall Washer’s announced U.S. prices were $219.99 for one unit and $384.99 for two; those were June 2025 announcement prices, not guaranteed current prices.

Budget and Matter-focused buyers
Compare IKEA, Govee, Tapo, and Nanoleaf on complete-room cost and verify each product’s current Matter, Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home, and hub requirements.
Deal hunters
Check official list prices against retailer sales, bundle pricing, inventory age, return policies, and warranty terms. The July 1, 2025 deadline has passed.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Signify’s U.S. Philips Hue price increase took effect July 1, 2025, and the company attributed it directly to tariffs. The announcement did not establish one universal percentage or a complete SKU-by-SKU comparison. In 2026, judge Hue against current prices and promotions—and against the value of its Bridge, accessory, automation, and entertainment ecosystem—not against an expired deadline.
