At IFA Berlin 2024, Reolink introduced a refreshed brand identity and unveiled the Altas PT Ultra, a battery-powered 4K pan-and-tilt camera built around longer recording sessions. The company also showcased the Home Hub Pro, the already-launched Argus 4 Pro and wider product families spanning panoramic cameras, color night vision, 4G connectivity and DIY security systems. The practical story was not a new platform or a proven leap in security performance: it was a push toward broader coverage, more local storage and more recording flexibility, each with installation and power trade-offs.
This is historical coverage of IFA 2024, held September 6–10, 2024. Product features and availability described here reflect the announcements and specifications cited below; they should not be read as a statement of current stock or pricing.
What Reolink announced at IFA 2024
Reolink exhibited at Hall 1.2, Booth 308. Its headline reveal was the Altas PT Ultra, alongside a new brand campaign. The company also presented the Home Hub Pro and other local-storage products, the Argus 4 Pro, and camera and system categories including dual-lens, ColorX, 4G, Wi-Fi and PoE products. Reolink announced the flagship reveal before the show and formally unveiled the Altas PT Ultra on September 6. Reolink’s pre-show announcement and its IFA event recap document the timing and lineup.

Those categories were not all newly launched at the trade show. The Altas PT Ultra was the principal new flagship reveal; the Argus 4 Pro had already been introduced and was showcased as part of the broader range. The event recap is useful for what Reolink said it was presenting, but its performance and battery figures are manufacturer claims, not independent test results.

The rebrand: new identity and message, not a new security platform
Reolink described changes to its logo, visual identity, colors and typography, as well as its website, social channels, packaging and retail displays. The refreshed messaging centered on safeguarding and enriching family life, with the promise “Be Prepared, Be Ahead.” That is a shift in presentation and positioning. The announcement did not describe a new company, a replacement app ecosystem or a changed subscription policy. Reolink’s event announcement outlines the identity changes.
It helps to keep three things separate: the brand refresh was about identity and messaging; product changes concerned cameras, detection, connectivity and storage; and the company’s emphasis on local recording concerned how customers could store footage. A new slogan by itself does not change how a camera records or what it costs to run.
Altas PT Ultra: battery-powered pan and tilt, with recording trade-offs
The Altas PT Ultra was the event’s most consequential product announcement for shoppers interested in battery cameras. Reolink lists 4K UHD video at 3840 × 2160 (8 megapixels), a 20,000mAh/72Wh rechargeable battery, up to 355 degrees of pan and 90 degrees of tilt, auto-tracking, and person, vehicle and animal detection. It supports motion-triggered, scheduled and continuous recording, local microSD storage with cards listed up to 512GB, dual-band Wi-Fi 6, color night vision, two-way audio and Google Assistant compatibility. The camera’s motorized view is repositionable, not a simultaneous panorama. A pan-and-tilt camera can turn to inspect different directions or follow detected movement, but it cannot capture every direction at once from one fixed frame. “Blindspot-free” language should therefore be understood as a marketing description, not a guarantee that every angle is continuously recorded.
Continuous recording is the feature that most clearly distinguishes the Altas pitch from the usual battery-camera approach, where recording is centered on detected events to conserve power. A continuous clip can preserve activity that falls outside a detection threshold or happens between trigger moments. But continuous recording uses more battery and storage, creates more footage to review, and may mean more charging or a more capable solar setup. Reolink’s launch estimate was up to eight days when recording continuously for 12 hours per day—not indefinite 24/7 battery operation. Actual runtime depends on settings, activity, Wi-Fi conditions, temperature and other factors.
Reolink also claimed that 10 minutes of solar charging could provide 24 hours of operation. Treat that as a favorable manufacturer estimate, not a dependable promise for every installation: sunlight, shading, season, panel angle, recording behavior, battery condition and local weather all affect charging. The cited product page lists USB-C power input; solar operation requires a compatible panel.

Wi-Fi 6 can help when the camera and router are on a compatible network, but it does not automatically improve resolution or guarantee reliable outdoor range. Placement, interference, router coverage and bandwidth still matter. Likewise, person, vehicle and animal detection may make alerts more useful, but classification is not guaranteed; view angle, obstructions, light and settings can affect results.

The two cameras address different coverage problems. The Altas PT Ultra moves its view and emphasizes tracking and longer recording sessions. The Argus 4 Pro uses two lenses to provide a fixed 180-degree horizontal panorama at once. That distinction matters more than comparing headline megapixels alone.

Specifications are from the cited Altas PT Ultra page and Argus 4 Pro kit page; this is not a hands-on performance comparison. IP65 and IP66 are different ratings, and neither means a camera can be submerged. Exposure, mounting, seals and cable routing still affect long-term reliability.
The Argus 4 Pro had already launched before IFA; Reolink used the event to show it as part of the wider lineup rather than present it as the main new reveal. Its listed features include ColorX full-color night vision, Wi-Fi 6, person, vehicle and animal detection, an optional 6W solar panel, IP66 weather resistance, Google Assistant support and Home Hub compatibility. The cited kit page lists microSD cards up to 128GB, while another official Argus 4 Pro page gives a different capacity limit. Check the exact model and configuration before buying storage rather than treating one capacity as universal. Check the Argus 4 Pro kit specifications.
Home Hub Pro and the appeal—and limits—of local storage
Reolink positioned the Home Hub Pro as a central management and local-storage option. IFA-era coverage reported support for up to 24 Reolink cameras and a built-in 2TB hard drive for the Pro. Those figures apply to the Pro claim, not every device in the Home Hub family: current family listings include different models and configurations, with differing camera limits and storage arrangements. Consult the specific Home Hub series listing and the exact model details before planning a system.

It may also allow recording to continue locally during an internet outage, depending on the setup. But local storage is not the same as backup: theft, fire, drive failure or damage can take the footage with the hub. A household still needs to secure remote access and accounts, and consider whether important recordings are backed up elsewhere. Optional cloud services and their availability vary by country; “no subscription” should not be read as a promise that every optional feature is free everywhere.

Compatibility is another practical limit. Reolink says the Home Hub series excludes certain older 2MP battery cameras and 4G cameras; support must be checked by camera model rather than assumed because the devices share a brand. Reolink also described dual-lens cameras for wide coverage, ColorX models aimed at color night imaging, 4G cameras for locations without Wi-Fi, and DIY systems combining battery, Wi-Fi and PoE cameras. Its portfolio included PoE and Wi-Fi NVRs as well as Home Hub storage systems. These were categories showcased at IFA; the event material does not establish that each was a new product launch. Reolink’s IFA community post lists the broader range.
Each approach solves a different infrastructure problem. A 4G camera can suit a remote shed or site without broadband, but requires cellular coverage, compatible service and potentially ongoing data costs. PoE cameras are a better starting point for permanent, reliable 24/7 recording when Ethernet cabling is feasible. Cloud storage can provide an off-site copy, but brings account dependence and may carry recurring fees. Fixed panoramic cameras record a wide view at once; PTZ models trade simultaneous coverage for the ability to redirect or track.
Which setup fits which property?
- Driveway or front yard: Consider the Argus 4 Pro if one mounting position can cover the desired frontage and a fixed wide view matters more than tracking.
- Large backyard or an area needing tracking: The Altas PT Ultra’s pan-and-tilt movement may help inspect different directions, but it cannot watch them all simultaneously. Consider whether event recording is enough or whether the added power and storage demands of continuous recording make sense.
- Remote shed or rural property: A 4G camera may work where Wi-Fi is unavailable, provided cellular service is reliable and the data-plan cost is acceptable.
- Permanent 24/7 surveillance: A wired PoE camera and NVR are generally a more suitable architecture than relying on a battery camera’s runtime. The trade-off is cabling and installation.
- Multi-camera local system: A Home Hub or NVR can centralize compatible cameras, but verify model support, capacity and storage before assembling a mixed-generation system.
- Rental or temporary installation: Battery-powered cameras avoid Ethernet runs, but still need a suitable mounting point, dependable Wi-Fi and a realistic charging plan.
For any option, budget beyond the camera itself: a solar panel, microSD card or hard drive, network improvements, PoE cabling, cellular service, mounting work and backup storage can change the total cost. Recording capacity also depends on resolution, frame rate, compression, audio and how much activity is captured.
What the IFA announcements meant in practice
Reolink’s presentation combined a brand refresh with product development aimed at familiar security-camera constraints: limited battery life, narrow coverage, dark scenes, dependence on cloud services and scattered recordings. The Altas PT Ultra’s continuous-recording modes and larger battery were a meaningful response to one of those constraints, while the Argus 4 Pro approached coverage with a fixed dual-lens panorama and the Home Hub Pro emphasized centralized local storage.
Those are different solutions, not a single across-the-board improvement. Battery-powered continuous recording remains constrained by power and storage; pan-and-tilt cannot record every direction at once; Wi-Fi 6 cannot repair a weak signal; local storage needs protection and backup; and product-family compatibility is not automatic. The rebrand changed how Reolink presented itself, while the hardware announcements offered shoppers more choices whose value depends on the property, recording needs and available infrastructure.
