Yes—Matter-equipped Eve Weather can be added to Google Home to access supported outdoor temperature and humidity readings. The key requirements are a Google Home hub that also works as a Thread Border Router and a compatible Matter setup. Google Home support does not mean every Eve feature—such as weather trends and historical graphs—will appear there.
What changed: Matter, not a Google-only redesign
Eve Weather measures outdoor temperature, humidity and barometric pressure, and uses local pressure changes to calculate a weather trend. The original product was centered on Apple HomeKit. The Matter-equipped version broadens the platforms it can join, including Google Home; it is not a separate Google-specific sensor.
Newer retail units include Matter. Eve also offered a free Matter firmware upgrade for eligible existing Thread-enabled Eve Weather devices. Eligibility and the upgrade process matter: an older HomeKit unit should not be assumed to work with Google Home until its firmware has been upgraded and it has been commissioned into Google Home using Matter.

What you need before setup
Eve Weather is a battery-powered Thread device, not a Wi-Fi sensor. Matter support alone is not enough: the home needs a Matter controller and a Thread Border Router. Some Google Home hubs perform both roles, but not every Nest speaker or Matter-capable hub includes Thread.
Google lists devices including Nest Hub (2nd generation), Nest Hub Max, Nest Wifi Pro and Google TV Streamer (4K) among its compatible hubs. Check Google’s current Matter compatibility guidance before buying hardware; capabilities vary by model. Google also identifies an IPv6-enabled home network as a requirement for reliable Matter operation.

For Matter setup through Google Home, Google lists a current Google Home app, Bluetooth Low Energy 4.2 or later, and Android 8.1 or later or iOS/iPadOS 16.5 or later among the requirements. The phone is used for commissioning; Thread is the device’s low-power network connection afterward. See Google’s Matter setup requirements for current details.

Add a new Matter-equipped Eve Weather
- Confirm the Eve Weather is a Matter version and set up a compatible Google Home hub with Thread Border Router capability.
- Update the Google Home app and enable Bluetooth on the phone being used for setup.
- Put Eve Weather into pairing mode using its quick-start instructions.
- In Google Home, choose the option to add a Matter-enabled device, then scan its Matter QR code or enter the setup code.
- Assign it to a home and room, then confirm that temperature and humidity appear in the device view.
- Check that the readings remain available before relying on them in an automation.
App labels can change, so follow the current Google Home prompts and the device’s quick-start guide. Keep the Matter setup code somewhere secure; it may be needed to add the device to another ecosystem.
Upgrade an existing Eve Weather
Eve says eligible Thread-enabled Eve Weather units can receive a free Matter firmware upgrade. Its upgrade instructions require a Thread Border Router-capable Apple home hub for the upgrade process, so an existing owner may need Apple home infrastructure even if the eventual goal is Google Home.
- Verify the device is set up in the Eve app and update its firmware.
- Follow Eve’s Matter upgrade instructions and check that the specific device qualifies.
- Save the Matter setup code as directed by Eve.
- Add the upgraded device to Google Home using the Matter setup option and code.
- Check its readings in the intended Google Home room.
Do not reset or remove a working device simply to try the upgrade. Follow Eve’s flow for that unit and retain its setup information. The full Eve app experience is a separate matter from Google Home access: Eve’s documentation lists iPhone or iPad requirements for its app and some setup and advanced features. Matter support can make the sensor available to Google Home on Android without making the Eve app an Android app.

Matter supports commissioning a device into additional ecosystems. For a mixed Apple-and-Google household, add it to each platform using the relevant Matter process and setup information. Eve says each additional platform needs its own Matter-capable hub; an existing Thread network can continue to be provided by the first platform’s Thread Border Router. Each app may still show a different subset of the device’s capabilities.

Published specifications and practical limits
- Connection: Thread; battery-powered Minimal Thread Device.
- Battery: replaceable CR2450; one is included.
- Protection: IPX4 water resistance, meaning protection against splashing—not immersion.
- Published accuracy: temperature ±0.54°F (±0.3°C), humidity ±3%, and pressure ±0.03 inHg (±1 mbar).
- Published operating ranges: temperature 0°F to 130°F (–18°C to 55°C), humidity 0%–100%, and pressure 7.7–37.2 inHg (260–1260 mbar).
- Size: 2.1 × 2.1 × 0.6 inches (54 × 54 × 16 mm).
Eve’s technical-support page gives a minimum operating temperature of 0°F, while one marketing article describes a much lower figure. Because those claims conflict, use the technical specification and do not rely on the device for extreme-cold operation beyond its published range. This is a compact environmental sensor, not a full weather station: it does not measure wind or rainfall. Its pressure-based trend is also not a substitute for a forecast service.

Mount it where it can sample representative outdoor air: shade is generally preferable to direct sun, and a position away from hot walls, vents and other heat sources helps avoid misleading readings. Avoid an enclosed box or a spot where water can collect. IPX4 does not make it suitable for immersion or every exposed installation.

Thread range depends on the home’s layout and network. If the sensor is unreliable at its intended location, move it closer to the Border Router or improve the Thread mesh. Eve notes that a mains-powered Thread device such as Eve Energy can help extend the network when placed indoors near the outdoor sensor.
Eve’s stated temperature accuracy is not a guarantee that every installation will match an official weather station. Sun-heated surfaces, shelter and nearby heat sources can distort the measurement. For a sanity check, compare it with a trusted thermometer placed nearby under similar conditions.
If Google Home cannot find it or readings stop
- It does not appear during setup: confirm the unit has Matter firmware, the Google hub supports Thread as well as Matter, Bluetooth is enabled during commissioning, the app is current, and the QR or numeric code is correct. Check Thread range and IPv6 on the home network.
- Setup appears to finish, then fails: Google warns that Matter setup may fail when IPv6 is unavailable. Check the router’s network configuration and Google’s troubleshooting guidance.
- It was working, but readings disappear: check the CR2450 battery, Thread Border Router status and signal range. Also consider recent router changes, network segmentation or incomplete commissioning.
- It works in Eve but not Google Home: verify the Matter upgrade and Google hub requirements. A working sensor in one ecosystem does not by itself confirm that it has been commissioned into another.
- Last resort: update the relevant device and platform software, then remove and recommission only if needed. Eve says holding the device button for 10 seconds resets it; a reset can require complete re-pairing, so retain the setup code and use Eve’s current instructions.
Who is it for?
Eve Weather makes the most sense for a Google Home household that wants a local outdoor temperature and humidity reading, already has suitable Thread infrastructure, and values its compact display or Apple-and-Google flexibility. It may also suit someone monitoring a garden, greenhouse, shed or porch, provided the placement is within the Thread network and the conditions are within the published range.

It is a less natural choice if you want a Wi-Fi-only sensor, a low-cost thermometer with no hub requirement, or measurements of wind and rain. Its Matter launch price was about $79.95 in the United States in July 2024; that historical price is not a current quote. Check Eve or a retailer for today’s price before buying.
For construction and property projects, treat the unit as a localized monitoring tool—not a building-control instrument or a substitute for a specified environmental monitoring system. Confirm that its operating range, exposure rating, network coverage and supported Google Home readings meet the job’s requirements.
