The Roborock Q7 Max+ is still a capable robot vacuum for uncluttered homes, especially those with hard floors: it maps efficiently, offers useful room-by-room controls, and empties its dustbin into a dock bag. But it is an older model, not a hands-off floor-cleaning system. Its mop is a damp-wipe attachment, and it cannot reliably avoid cords, socks, toys, or pet waste. Buy it only at a meaningful discount, after confirming it is in stock and replacement parts are available. Roborockโs U.S. listing has shown sale pricing while also marking the model sold out or coming soon, so availability is volatile. Check the current listing before deciding.
What the Q7 Max+ includes
The Q7 Max+ is the Roborock Q7 Max robot bundled with the Auto-Empty Dock Pure. The robot itself is mechanically the same as the Q7 Max; the โ+โ mainly means the self-emptying dock is included. The dock recharges the robot and transfers dust from its bin into a disposable bag. It does not wash or dry the mop cloth, refill the water tank, or scrub floors. RTINGSโ review and Roborockโs manual make that distinction important: dust emptying is automated, but mopping care is not.
Roborock says the dockโs 2.5-liter bag can last up to seven weeks between changes. Treat that as a best-case estimate, not a schedule: household size, pets, debris and cleaning frequency affect how quickly it fills.

Hard floors: Independent testing found good pickup of medium and larger debris, although some fine debris can remain along walls and in corners. For daily maintenance in a relatively tidy home, this is the Q7 Max+ at its best.

Carpet: RTINGS found strong performance on high-pile carpet, but fine debris can remain embedded in low-pile carpet, particularly near edges. Results depend on flooring and debris; it is not a substitute for occasional thorough vacuuming.
Pet hair: This is a weak point. RTINGS found the single rubber brushroll does not agitate carpet enough to lift substantial pet hair. The dock may mean fewer manual dustbin trips, but it does not fix pickup limitations or make the robot safe to run unattended where pet waste might be present.
Roborock advertises up to 4,200Pa suction. That is a manufacturer maximum measured under specified conditions, not an independent cleaning score or a direct guarantee of performance on your floors. The same caution applies to its advertised runtime of up to three hours and coverage estimates: flooring, suction setting, route complexity and battery age change real-world results. The mop is for light maintenance
The Q7 Max+ has an electronic water pump, adjustable water flow and a passive mop pad. Roborock lists 30 water-flow levels and 300g of mop pressure, but these figures do not make it a powered scrubber. The pad neither vibrates nor rotates, and the robot cannot lift it automatically over carpet. RTINGS found its stain cleaning inadequate; Vacuum Wars found it improved on earlier Roborock mop systems but still short of more advanced powered designs.
In practice, the mop is useful for routine dust and light marks, but it is not a replacement for scrubbing dried-on spills. In mixed-floor homes, remove the mop mount for vacuum-only runs or restrict mopping to hard-floor rooms. The dock will not clean the cloth for you.
Mapping is a strength; obstacle avoidance is not
PreciSense LiDAR helps the Q7 Max+ map room geometry and plan efficient routes. Vacuum Wars reported an average of 0.88 square meters cleaned per minute in its tests, against a 0.68-square-meter average in its comparison set. Its route planning and coverage efficiency are genuine strengths.

But mapping is not object recognition. The Q7 Max+ has no real-time obstacle-avoidance system, and testing by RTINGS found it could run over or drag small objects, get caught on horizontal chair legs, and tangle with rug tassels. Do not count on it to identify cords, socks, toys or pet waste. Before a scheduled run, clear loose objects, secure cables, move tasselled rugs and set app no-go zones around hazards. No-go zones help with mapped areas; they do not teach the robot to recognize a new object left on the floor.

The Roborock app is a strong part of the package. It supports room-select and zone cleaning, schedules, custom routines, multi-floor maps, 3D map support and room-specific settings. For larger homes, recharge-and-resume lets the robot return to charge and continue cleaning. These controls make it more useful than a basic random-navigation vacuum, but they do not overcome the lack of object avoidance.
App screens and connection steps can change as software is updated, so follow the current in-app prompts rather than relying on old screenshots. The manual also lists Xiaomi Home as an app option.

Specifications and estimates are not directly comparable across brands unless test conditions match. Battery life and cleaning coverage vary with use.
Setup and everyday use
- Place the dock on a hard, level floor with a clear approach and departure path. Avoid wedging it into a cramped spot where the robot cannot line up reliably.
- Install the Roborock app or Xiaomi Home and add the robot using the current device-search flow.
- Connect the robot to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. A dual-band router is not necessarily a problem, but setup may require your phone to use the 2.4GHz network. 5GHz-only Wi-Fi is unsupported.
- Run an initial mapping cycle with loose objects cleared from the floor. After mapping, label or divide rooms and create schedules, routines or no-go zones as needed.
- For mopping, fill the tank without wetting the filter, wet and wring the cloth until it stops dripping, attach the cloth and mount, then choose a suitable water-flow setting. Use only Roborock-branded floor cleaner if adding a cleaning solution; the manual warns against hot water and unauthorized cleaners.
After mopping, remove the mount, wash the cloth and empty unused water. Roborockโs manual recommends cleaning the cloth after 60 minutes of mopping to maintain water flow and cleaning quality. If Wi-Fi setup fails, follow the manualโs Wi-Fi reset instructionsโthe robot signals โResetting WiFiโโthen add it again in the app.
Maintenance the dock does not eliminate
- Replace the dockโs dust bag when full; check the availability and compatibility of replacement bags before buying an older or refurbished unit.
- Wash the mop cloth after use, empty unused tank water and remove the mop mount when not mopping.
- Clear hair and debris from the main brush, side brush and wheels.
- Clean sensors and charging contacts, and maintain or replace filters as directed in the manual.
- Keep the dock approach clear. If the robot repeatedly struggles to return, try relocating the dock to a more open position before assuming there is a mapping fault.
For a robot that gets stuck, stop the cycle, free it and check the brushes, wheels and mop mount for tangles. Move tasselled rugs or add a no-go zone around a recurring trouble spot. These small interventions are part of ownership, particularly in cluttered rooms.

The Q7 Max+ makes sense when its total price is clearly below newer self-emptying robots and you mainly want mapped, scheduled vacuuming with less frequent dustbin emptying. Consider the Q7 Max instead if you are comfortable emptying its bin yourself and find it cheaper. That version has the same robot hardware without the bundled auto-empty dock.
Skip the Q7 Max+ if it costs close to a newer model with active obstacle recognition or a more automated mop dock. For buyers prioritizing mop washing and drying, the Roomba Plus 505 Combo is one comparison point: its official product page lists a dock that refreshes, washes and heat-dries mop pads, along with LiDAR and obstacle recognition, but it is a more expensive category of purchase and promotional pricing can change. Check iRobotโs current listing. RTINGS also points readers seeking stronger mopping toward the Roborock Qrevo S and those prioritizing obstacle avoidance toward the eufy E20; verify their current specifications and prices before comparing.
Compare all-in cost, not just the headline discount: include bags, filters, brushes and mop cloths, as well as warranty and return terms. Because the Q7 Max+ is an older model and Roborockโs U.S. listing has shown it unavailable, confirm that parts are obtainable and that the exact regional model, plug, voltage and warranty suit your location. Regional variants and accessory compatibility should not be assumed.
