Epson’s Q-Series is a three-projector family, not a single model. The lineup runs from the lens-included, 3,300-lumen QB1000 to the body-only QL3000 and QL7000, rated at up to 6,000 and 10,000 lumens respectively. That output is intended for large screens and multipurpose rooms where a conventional dark theater is not always possible—but the QL models also require a separately purchased lens and a more involved installation.
The Q-Series lineup at a glance
Epson announced the premium 3LCD laser range in August 2024. Epson’s US pages checked August 16, 2026 list the following models and prices:

Brightness figures retain Epson’s stated standards: color brightness is identified as IDMS-rated and white brightness as ISO-rated. “Up to” also matters; maximum output depends on picture mode and operating conditions. The current prices and reseller availability are detailed on Epson’s Q-Series page, while the original launch details appear in Epson’s announcement.
Why brightness is the headline
A projector’s light output has to illuminate the screen and overcome some of the room’s stray light. More output can preserve a watchable, saturated image when windows or fixtures cannot be fully controlled, when the screen is very large, or when the room is used for sports, television and gaming as well as films.

That does not make brightness a universal image-quality score. Screen size and gain, seating distance, black level, HDR tone mapping, wall and ceiling reflections, and calibration all affect the result. In a reflective white room, extra light can bounce back onto the screen and raise the black floor, reducing perceived contrast. A well-controlled room with an appropriate screen can look better than a brighter projector used in a poor installation.
Epson’s three-chip 3LCD design is central to the pitch. The company says it displays the full RGB signal continuously for every frame, so color and white brightness are rated equally. That is an architectural advantage Epson emphasizes; it is not a substitute for independent measurements of contrast, color accuracy or viewing performance.
What each projector is for
QB1000: the complete premium-theater option
The QB1000 is the most straightforward purchase for a dedicated cinema or a room that can be substantially darkened. It combines 3,300 color and white lumens with Epson’s QZX Picture Processor, UltraBlack technology, HDR10+ support, native 120 Hz support and a supplied 15-element VRX Cinema Lens. The lens provides powered focus, zoom and shift, and Epson lists a three-year limited warranty.

Its $7,999 MSRP represents a more complete projector package than the QL prices because the lens is included. It is still excessive for a small screen or casual viewing, and a television may be simpler where daylight is uncontrolled.
QL3000: high output with installation flexibility
The QL3000 raises rated output to 6,000 color and 6,000 white lumens. It accepts interchangeable Epson precision lenses, making throw distance and placement adaptable to a large-screen or multipurpose-room design. It also supports Epson’s 4K Display Technology, QZX processing, HDR10 and HLG, and native 120 Hz.
The important catch is that the $15,999 current MSRP is for the projector body. The correct system budget must add a compatible lens, screen, mount, cabling, audio and—often—professional installation and calibration.

QL7000: for extreme screen sizes and bright environments
The flagship QL7000 is rated at up to 10,000 color and white lumens and is positioned for very large screens—Epson cites images up to 300 inches depending on lens and installation—or rooms with substantial ambient light. It shares the QL3000’s HDR10/HLG support, QZX processor and native-120-Hz specification, but its $32,999 listed price also excludes the lens.

For a conventional dark-room screen, 10,000 lumens may provide little practical benefit and can create an unnecessarily complex, expensive system. It makes sense when screen area, viewing distance or room light genuinely demands the additional headroom.
“4K” needs a precise explanation
Epson describes these products as using 4K Display Technology (and, where applicable, 4K PRO-UHD terminology). That wording should not be changed to “native 4K” without evidence of native 3,840 × 2,160 imaging panels. A projector can accept a 4K source while using pixel shifting or other image-enhancement methods.

Perceived detail also depends on lens quality, processing, screen size and seating distance. Buyers comparing projectors should verify the supported input signal and seek independent measurements rather than treating the 4K label alone as a guarantee of television-like sharpness.

The QB1000 is listed with HDR10+, while the QL3000 and QL7000 list HDR10 and HLG. Format compatibility does not guarantee the highlight intensity, black level or color volume of a high-end OLED or mini-LED television; projection performance is constrained by screen and room conditions.
Epson lists native 120 Hz support and markets the family for 4K gaming at 120 Hz. That does not establish input latency, nor does it prove that every resolution, HDR mode and HDMI combination runs at 120 Hz. Serious gamers should confirm the exact console or PC signal path and look for independent latency measurements.

Installation and system costs
The QL3000 and QL7000 are installation products rather than casual, all-in-one living-room devices. Lens choice determines throw ratio, image size, placement range and lens shift; do not apply the QB1000’s reported approximately 1.35:1–2.84:1 throw range to every QL configuration. The QL models use standard 110–120 V wall power according to Epson, but ventilation, mounting and local electrical requirements still need to be checked.
The New Atlas launch report describes HDMI 2.1 with audio return, USB Type-A and Ethernet. The projectors do not include smart-TV platforms or built-in speakers, so plan for an external streamer, disc player or console and a separate audio system. Ethernet supports control and network integration; it is not a substitute for streaming apps. An AV receiver’s HDMI/eARC behavior should be checked against the chosen sources.
Which model fits which room?
- Dedicated, light-controlled theater: Start with the QB1000. Its included lens, UltraBlack technology and HDR10+ support make it the least complicated Q-Series system.
- Multipurpose room or meaningful ambient light: Consider the QL3000 if a suitable screen and lens justify the higher total cost.
- 150–200-inch installation: The QB1000 may be sufficient in a dark room; the QL3000 offers more brightness margin when light control is limited.
- Very large or approximately 300-inch screen: The QL7000’s output and interchangeable-lens platform are the relevant tools, subject to a detailed light-level and throw-distance plan.
- Gaming-focused room: All three list 120 Hz, but confirm supported HDMI modes and measured latency before buying.
- Daylight-first viewing: Compare the complete projection system with a large OLED or mini-LED television. A TV is generally simpler and produces stronger HDR highlights in direct light.
Availability and pricing today
Epson’s US listings checked August 16, 2026 show the QB1000 at $7,999, the QL3000 at $15,999 and the QL7000 at $32,999. Epson directs buyers to authorized resellers rather than offering ordinary direct checkout. The QL figures are not turnkey prices because a lens is additional. Launch SRPs from 2024 were lower for the QL models, so older news coverage should not be used as a current quote.

It is not a replacement for the QL7000’s extreme output or interchangeable-lens installation model.
Bottom line
The Q-Series makes unusually high brightness available in premium home-oriented 4K-display projection. The QB1000 is the practical, lens-included choice for a serious dark-room theater. The QL3000 and QL7000 are high-end installation platforms whose separate lenses, screens, audio and calibration materially change the final budget. Brightness can solve a real large-screen or ambient-light problem, but it does not remove the need to plan the room, screen, HDR expectations, signal path and contrast carefully.
