For a Costco refrigerator, judge the exact model—not just the brand or star rating. A simpler design with a dependable local service option is usually a safer bet than a feature-packed fridge whose ice maker, dispenser, or electronics you do not need. Based on the available Costco listings and Consumer Reports’ 2026 reliability survey, these are four candidates to consider and four models or configurations that deserve extra caution. “Avoid” here means think twice, not that a fridge is certain to fail.
Availability, ratings, prices, delivery terms, and promotions can change by location and over time. Treat the models below as a shortlist to verify on Costco’s current listing before you buy; no hands-on testing is claimed.

Costco reviews can help identify delivery or early-use complaints, but they are not a five-year reliability study. A higher Costco score is useful context, not proof of long-term reliability. Ratings can reflect capacity, appearance, delivery, and initial operation. Also weigh the number of reviews, the exact model and configuration, and whether authorized service is available where you live.

Four Costco refrigerators worth considering
1. GE GNE25JYKFS: a compact 33-inch French-door option
This 24.7-cu.-ft. French-door model is worth a look when a 36-inch refrigerator will not fit. Its water dispenser and ice maker are inside the refrigerator rather than built into an exterior door, avoiding some of the added dispenser complexity. Costco’s captured listing showed 4.0 stars from 454 reviews and a two-year warranty indication. Best for: Kitchens with a tight width limit and buyers who want French-door access without an exterior water dispenser.
Trade-off: At 33 inches wide, it may offer less usable space than a full-width model. Check the actual installation dimensions, not just the advertised width, and confirm the ice-maker and water-line arrangement on the current spec sheet.
2. LG LRYXC2606S: counter-depth capacity with a reliability caveat
This 26-cu.-ft. Smart Counter-Depth MAX French-door model may suit buyers who want a counter-depth appearance but still need substantial capacity. Costco’s captured listing showed 4.4 stars from 521 reviews, four ice types, three built-in ice makers, and a two-year manufacturer-warranty indication. Check the Costco listing for model 1715553
Best for: Buyers who specifically value a counter-depth format and multiple ice options.
Trade-off: The feature-rich ice system adds components, and Consumer Reports says its survey found more compressor problems in LG French-door refrigerators than in many competing brands. That finding does not establish that this particular model will fail. Before ordering, check nearby service coverage and the exact labor and parts terms of the warranty. Do not buy it on the assumption that a strong retail rating means it is among the most reliable refrigerators.
3. A simpler GE or Whirlpool with an internal ice maker
Rather than naming a model whose current Costco listing has not been verified, look for a live GE or Whirlpool listing that matches this configuration: conventional French-door, bottom-freezer, or top-freezer layout; internal ice maker, if wanted; no through-the-door dispenser; and few extra electronic features. Compare the exact model number, current rating and review count, warranty indication, dimensions, and local repair availability before deciding.

Trade-off: Fewer features are a way to limit complexity, not a reliability guarantee. A particular model still needs a fit and service check. A refrigerator without an ice maker or water dispenser is simpler still if you do not need either.

Costco’s large-family refrigerator page listed a 27.9-cu.-ft. GE Profile four-door French-door refrigerator with AutoFill, a water door-in-door, Wi-Fi, and 4.3 stars from 1,935 reviews. The dossier does not establish a specific model number for this listing, so verify the exact model and current Costco page before treating it as a match. Best for: Families that regularly store bulky items and will use the four-door organization and large capacity.

Trade-off: AutoFill, Wi-Fi, a water door-in-door, and extra doors are convenience features, not reliability advantages. More systems and moving parts can mean more things to troubleshoot or repair. This standard-depth style may also project well beyond counters; check depth and walkway clearance in your kitchen.
Four models or configurations to approach cautiously
1. Samsung French-door models with complex ice and dispenser systems
Consumer Reports’ 2026 survey describes poor predicted reliability and owner-satisfaction results for many Samsung French-door models, with complaints often involving malfunctioning icemakers and temperatures that were too warm. This is a reason to investigate the exact model and configuration—not a verdict on every Samsung refrigerator. Costco’s large-family listings included Bespoke four-door and three-door French-door models with Beverage Center features and high captured ratings, including 4.6 stars from 1,901 reviews and 4.5 stars from 611 reviews respectively. A high retail rating and a concerning survey signal can coexist: they measure different things and time horizons.
Think twice if: You want the lowest-complexity choice, cannot tolerate repair delays, or do not need the Beverage Center or specialty ice features. Check local authorized service and the exact warranty. 2. LG InstaView or Craft Ice models bought mainly for novelty features
Costco’s large-family listings included a 29.5-cu.-ft. Wi-Fi-enabled LG InstaView Door-in-Door refrigerator with Craft Ice, shown at 4.4 stars from 1,808 reviews in the captured listing. Glass door panels, Wi-Fi, specialty ice, and additional water components may be worthwhile if you will use them, but they add complexity to a refrigerator whose core job is keeping food cold. Consumer Reports’ survey also flags compressor concerns in LG French-door refrigerators. That does not prove a specific InstaView model is defective.

Think twice if: You are paying a premium mainly for InstaView, door-in-door access, or specialty ice rather than storage and cooling. Check the exact model warranty: LG coverage distinguishes the sealed system, compressor, and other parts, and some later compressor coverage may be parts-only, leaving labor charges to the owner. 3. Whirlpool WRF560SEHZ at an unappealing price—or if you need more capacity
Costco’s captured listing for this 20-cu.-ft. French-door refrigerator showed 3.9 stars from 781 reviews. It has an exterior water dispenser, one of the component categories Consumer Reports identifies as a common source of refrigerator problems. The rating is not proof that the refrigerator is bad, nor does it justify condemning Whirlpool as a brand. Best reason to consider it: You have a tight opening that suits its dimensions and want that particular layout.
Reason to pass: You need more capacity or the current price does not make sense for the size. Compare it with simpler models and verify the current rating, warranty, dimensions, and price rather than relying on a past promotion.
4. Any refrigerator that fails the fit, delivery, or service check
A high-rated fridge is still a poor purchase if it cannot get into the kitchen, blocks a walkway, prevents a door from opening, or cannot be serviced locally. Measure the entire delivery route—including exterior doors, hallways, stairs, and elevators—not just the cabinet opening. Check the refrigerator’s width, height, and depth including handles; hinge and door-swing clearance; freezer-drawer extension; and whether doors or drawers can be removed for delivery if needed. Confirm the water-line location, shutoff valve, electrical outlet, and floor condition. Costco says delivery, installation, haul-away, and basic installation parts may be included for eligible products and areas; do not assume every item or address has identical service. - Measure the opening at its tightest points. Record width, height to the underside of cabinets, and depth to the wall, trim, and counter. Compare your measurements with the manufacturer’s installation dimensions, including required clearances—not only the product title’s nominal width.
- Check movement and access. Confirm French doors clear adjacent walls, handles clear counters, and the freezer drawer can extend fully. Measure the route from the building entrance to the kitchen, including turns and overhead height.
- Decide whether you need a water connection. If you want ice or water, check the manual for line, pressure, filter, and shutoff requirements. Find out filter replacement frequency and cost. Hard water, low pressure, or an aging shutoff valve can complicate installation. If you do not need a dispenser or ice maker, a model without them removes those systems from the setup.
- Write down the exact model number. Similar product names can hide different configurations or retailer-specific versions. Confirm that the Costco listing, manufacturer specification sheet, and warranty all refer to the same model.
- Check repair support before buying. Look for authorized service in your area and ask a local repair company whether it services that brand and model family. Pay particular attention to sealed-system, compressor, control-board, and ice-maker repairs.
- Read coverage by component. Separate full-appliance coverage from compressor or sealed-system coverage, and check whether labor is included for each period. Compare any protection plan with Costco’s included coverage; look at deductibles, service-call limits, exclusions, replacement terms, food-loss coverage, and service-network requirements.
- Review delivery and installation conditions. Confirm what the order includes, whether water hookup or old-unit removal is covered at your address, and what preparation is required. Make sure the installation location and route are ready.
- Inspect and document the delivery. Photograph the appliance and visible condition promptly. Check doors, handles, controls, shelves, drawers, leveling, and water connections, and report damage or problems promptly under the applicable Costco procedure.
- Follow the installation manual before loading food. Level and connect the refrigerator as directed, then allow it to reach the manufacturer’s recommended temperatures before adding perishables.
Costco warranty and returns: useful protection, not a substitute for fit
Costco says it extends the manufacturer’s warranty on major appliances to two years and provides warranty assistance. Its policy says the second-year obligation may be fulfilled, at Costco’s choice, by repair, replacement, or refund up to the purchase price. The terms and applicable procedures matter, so read the current policy and the manufacturer’s warranty for the exact model before ordering. Do not treat Costco’s return policy as an unconditional, lifetime return guarantee. Appliance returns have specific conditions and exclusions. A return also cannot erase the inconvenience of spoiled food, delivery damage, installation work, or waiting for a replacement. Keep the receipt and delivery documents, and understand the reporting process before you need it.
An extended protection plan is not automatically a good or bad deal. Compare what it covers with both Costco’s second-year protection and the manufacturer’s terms—especially labor for compressor and sealed-system work, ice makers, water components, and electronics. A long parts warranty can still leave meaningful labor costs.

Bosch is another option to compare if you want a premium counter-depth layout, but the available information here does not establish a specific Costco model or live availability to recommend as one of the four picks. Compare exact models in the same size and price class, and check nearby authorized service before choosing. Bosch says its refrigerators generally have a one-year limited warranty covering parts and labor; built-in refrigerators receive additional coverage on certain components.
