Yes—TP-Link’s Tapo app can manage most Kasa devices, and linking an existing Kasa account usually does not require resetting or reconfiguring your devices. Compatibility is not universal: TP-Link specifically lists the Kasa KE100 and KE110 as unsupported, and exact model and hardware revision matter. The integration is not brand-new; Kasa control arrived with Tapo app 3.0. What matters now is how to link your devices and which features do—and do not—come along.
What the Tapo–Kasa integration does
Kasa and Tapo are separate TP-Link smart-home brands with separate apps. The Tapo app can serve as a shared control interface for supported devices from both lines. TP-Link documents two ways to use it: link the TP-Link ID already used with Kasa so existing devices appear, or add a compatible Kasa device directly from Tapo.
This is app consolidation, not necessarily a full migration of every setting, service, or recording. A device appearing in Tapo does not guarantee that every model-specific control works identically there. TP-Link introduced Kasa control with Tapo 3.0, so “finally” should not be read as a newly launched 2026 feature. See TP-Link’s Tapo 3.0 announcement and its current Kasa-in-Tapo setup guide.

Check whether your Kasa model is supported
TP-Link says most Kasa devices are compatible, rather than promising support for every Kasa product. Its current guidance names the KE100 and KE110 as unsupported. Compatibility can also depend on the precise model, hardware version, firmware, app version, and region. Check the model label on your device and consult the support page for your region before planning a whole-home change.

TP-Link’s compatibility and feature guidance is in its Kasa-and-Tapo FAQ. Treat its broad compatibility statement as a starting point, not a substitute for checking a particular regional or older device.
Before you link an existing Kasa home
- Install Tapo app version 3.0 or later; the documented workflow requires at least that version. If possible, use the latest version available for your phone.
- Sign in to Kasa and Tapo with the same TP-Link ID for account linking.
- Make sure the Kasa devices are online and controllable in Kasa. Update their firmware if an update is available. TP-Link documents firmware updates through both apps; see its firmware guide for Tapo and Kasa devices.
- Do not factory-reset a working device just to make it show up in Tapo. Account linking is the recommended route for existing devices and generally does not require Wi-Fi setup again.
Link existing Kasa devices to Tapo
- Open the Tapo app and go to Me. Depending on the app version, this may appear at the bottom right, or your profile icon may be at the top left.
- Choose Link Tapo with Kasa.
- Tap the authorization option (TP-Link describes it as Authorize Now) and sign in or approve access with the TP-Link ID already used in Kasa.
- Return to Tapo’s home page and check whether your Kasa devices appear. Try controlling one device before reorganizing the home.
TP-Link says this linking route can make supported Kasa devices, groups, Smart Actions, scenes, timers, Away Mode, and schedules available in Tapo. Feature availability can vary by device. Linked devices may initially be listed under All Devices; you may need to assign them to rooms again. Linking the accounts is not the same as resetting and re-pairing devices.

Add a new Kasa device directly in Tapo
If you are setting up a new compatible Kasa product, TP-Link also documents adding it from Tapo:
- In Tapo, tap the add-device button.
- Select the Kasa brand—not Tapo.
- Choose the device category and model, then follow the setup prompts for that product.
- If the model is not listed, update the app and device firmware, confirm compatibility, and try searching or entering the model number manually if the app offers that option.
Selecting the wrong brand can keep a model from appearing in the list. Menu labels can vary by app version and region; TP-Link’s setup instructions describe both the direct-add and account-linking methods.

What carries over—and what may not
TP-Link lists Kasa groups, Smart Actions, scenes, timers, Away Mode, and schedules among the functions supported in Tapo. That does not establish identical controls for every product. Check a device’s controls after linking, particularly if a model has specialized features you rely on. Room organization may also need attention: linked devices can land in All Devices rather than their previous room.
If you depend on Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home, or SmartThings, test those integrations separately. Tapo access does not by itself prove that a third-party assistant integration, routine, or device-specific feature behaves the same way. TP-Link’s general Kasa FAQ discusses Kasa and Alexa or Google Home support; check the exact device and service you use.

Camera owners: keep the Kasa app for footage you need
The biggest caveat is cloud video. Kasa Care and Tapo Care are separate subscriptions, and existing Kasa cloud-video history cannot be transferred to or viewed in Tapo. Keep Kasa available if you need that history, and download or otherwise preserve important recordings before changing services. TP-Link says a linked Kasa camera may be eligible for Tapo Care services, but that does not transfer old Kasa recordings or make the subscriptions interchangeable. If you plan to stop Kasa Care, review and manage its renewal separately.
If linking does not work
- Check the account: For account linking, make sure both apps are using the same TP-Link ID.
- Update: Install an available Tapo app update and update the Kasa device’s firmware where possible.
- Check the model: Confirm that it is supported; TP-Link currently identifies KE100 and KE110 as exceptions.
- Check Kasa first: Make sure the device is online and controllable in Kasa before troubleshooting Tapo.
- For direct setup, select Kasa: Choose the Kasa brand and the correct model. If it is missing, try searching by model number.
- Retry authorization: Close and reopen the app, restart the phone if necessary, and attempt the link again.
Do not reset as an early troubleshooting step. Reset procedures vary by product. For many Kasa smart plugs, a press of about five seconds performs a soft reset that preserves settings, while about 10 seconds performs a factory reset that erases them—but those timings are not universal. Use the instructions for the exact model; TP-Link provides guidance for smart-plug reset behavior and Kasa plugs, switches, and power strips.

Should you keep Kasa, use Tapo, or replace a device?
- Use Tapo as the shared dashboard if your devices are compatible, you want one interface for Kasa and Tapo products, and the controls you need work after linking.
- Keep Kasa installed for a KE100 or KE110, a device that remains unsupported, Kasa cloud-video history, or a model-specific function you have not verified in Tapo. There is no need to uninstall Kasa just because you link accounts.
- Consider replacement hardware if a device is unsupported, failing, or no longer suits your needs. TP-Link’s U.S. smart-home end-of-life list dated March 30, 2026 includes many older Kasa products. End-of-life status alone does not mean a device has stopped working; check its support status and the replacement’s specifications before buying.
For any replacement, compare the features that matter to that specific job—such as energy monitoring, Matter or HomeKit support, outdoor rating, switch wiring requirements, and electrical ratings. A new device is not necessary merely to put a compatible Kasa product in Tapo. TP-Link continues to publish Kasa support material, so the Tapo integration is not evidence by itself that Kasa is being discontinued.
