Xiaomi announced its MIJIA Smart Evaporative Cooling Fan in China in May 2023 with a 489-yuan crowdfunding price. It combines ordinary fan airflow with water-based evaporative cooling and humidification—but it is not an air conditioner. Later coverage reported a 599-yuan retail listing, and neither figure establishes the product’s current price or availability. For a construction-site office, workshop, or home, the key question is whether its added moisture and climate-dependent cooling suit the space.
What the “3-in-1” claim means
The tower-style unit has three advertised functions: blowing, cooling, and humidifying. They are related uses of the same airflow and water system, not three independent appliances:
- Blowing: It circulates air like a conventional fan, without needing evaporation for the airflow itself.
- Cooling: In evaporative mode, air moves past a wet cooling medium. Some water evaporates, taking heat from the moving air and making the directed airflow feel cooler. Xiaomi’s launch coverage also describes using water and ice crystals for stronger cooling.
- Humidifying: Evaporated water enters the air as moisture. That can be welcome in dry conditions, but it is inseparable from evaporative cooling.
The unit does not use a compressor to refrigerate air, and it should not be treated as a portable air conditioner. Its performance depends on ambient humidity, airflow, ventilation, and water-system condition. The available launch coverage does not establish independent tests across different climates or room conditions.

Evaporation generally provides more useful cooling in dry air, which can absorb more moisture. In humid weather, the cooling effect is weaker because the air is already moisture-laden. In a closed room, continued evaporation can make the space feel muggy; ventilation or an exhaust path helps remove the added moisture. As with other evaporative coolers, judge it primarily as directed personal airflow, not as a dependable way to bring an entire room to a chosen temperature.

It may suit a desk, bedside, or other spot where someone can sit in its airflow, particularly in a dry climate or a space without compressor cooling. It is a poor fit if you need dehumidification, precise temperature control, or reliable cooling in humid weather. A standard fan is simpler if you only want airflow without added moisture; a compressor air conditioner is the more appropriate category when you need controlled room cooling.
Reported features—and what the figures mean
Launch coverage reports four wind modes: direct, natural, sleep, and cold. Other listed details include a removable water tank, a 0.4-meter air outlet, and up to 10 meters of claimed air-supply distance. These are reported product specifications, not independently verified performance guarantees.

489 yuan was a launch offer, not a current price
IT Home reported the product announcement on May 5, 2023, with crowdfunding scheduled to begin May 10 at 489 yuan. Later coverage reported a 599-yuan retail listing. The original coverage’s approximate conversion of 489 yuan to US$71 is a historical conversion, not a current U.S. price. The official Xiaomi purchase page confirms a product page, but the available information does not confirm present-day stock, price, or international availability. IT Home’s launch report and later retail-price report document those historical figures; Xiaomi’s product page does not establish a current price in the available result.

Ownership: water and cleaning are part of the deal
A water-based appliance needs more upkeep than a dry fan. General operating guidance surfaced in a third-party manual recommends clean water and cleaning the wet curtain and air filters if airflow weakens. Because that manual is not hosted on Xiaomi’s support domain, follow the instructions supplied with the specific unit for filling, compatible ice crystals, cleaning agents, and component removal.

- Keep the tank and wet cooling medium clean; empty standing water and dry removable wet parts when the unit will be unused.
- Keep the air inlet and outlet unobstructed, and put the unit on a level surface.
- If cooling weakens, check that cold-wind or evaporative mode is selected, confirm the water level, clear obstructions, and clean the relevant components as the manual directs.
- If the room becomes too humid, switch to ordinary/direct airflow, improve ventilation, or stop evaporative mode. A hygrometer can help you monitor indoor humidity.
- If there is an unusual odor, visible contamination, leakage, or abnormal noise, stop using it and inspect and clean it according to the supplied instructions. Do not rely on the antibacterial claim as a substitute for maintenance.
The same third-party manual advises checking that the unit is level if it makes unusual noise and re-pairing it if app connection fails. Noise may also rise with speed or other operating conditions, so the minimum advertised figure is not a promise of near-silent operation at all settings.
Import and smart-home caveats
The product was launched for the China market. The reported app and voice features may depend on Xiaomi app region, account, Wi-Fi compatibility, server support, and language; XiaoAI should not be assumed to work with every international account or setup. If importing, confirm the exact model, plug, voltage, required adapter or transformer, seller warranty, return terms, and availability of replacement wet curtains or filters. An adapter changes plug fit, not voltage compatibility or certification. The available information does not establish official U.S. certification, local warranty coverage, or a current U.S. listing.

Who should consider it?
It is most plausible for someone in a dry or moderately dry climate who wants personal airflow with optional evaporative cooling and does not mind refilling and cleaning a water system. Existing Mijia users may also value ecosystem control if their regional setup supports it.
Look elsewhere if you live in a humid climate, need to cool a closed bedroom to a set temperature, want dehumidification, or cannot accept import uncertainty and water-system maintenance. A conventional fan avoids added humidity and upkeep; a portable air conditioner can provide compressor-based cooling but brings different requirements, including exhaust ducting and condensate management.
