Invisible cooktops are real, but they have not replaced induction stovetops around the world. The systems drawing attention in 2026 are still induction: their coils sit beneath a compatible countertop and heat magnetic cookware through it. The change is architectural—no visible glass cooktop—not a new way of cooking.
For a construction or remodeling project, the countertop is part of the appliance system. Slab material and thickness, cabinet space, electrical capacity, ventilation, and service access all need to be coordinated before fabrication. That makes concealed induction a premium design choice, not a plug-in upgrade for every kitchen.
What an invisible induction cooktop is
In an under-counter system, induction modules or coils are mounted beneath an approved worktop. Their electromagnetic field passes through the surface and heats a compatible pan. The pan is the primary heated object; the countertop can warm from contact with a hot pan and should not be treated as cool or heat-proof while cooking.

- Induction modules are fitted below the countertop.
- The field passes through the specifically approved worktop material and thickness.
- A magnetic pan placed in the cooking zone heats directly.
- Controls may be located on the surface edge, in a drawer, on a separate controller, or elsewhere, depending on the product.
Novy describes Undercover as working on the same induction principle as a conventional hob, with coils beneath a compatible 20 mm Dekton worktop. Novy’s explanation of how Undercover works outlines the basic arrangement.

Why designers are considering it—and what “taking over” gets wrong
A continuous island can serve as a prep surface, serving area, and cooking zone without a black glass rectangle interrupting the design. Concealed induction can also remove exposed rings, grates, and cooktop seams from the main sightline, which suits open-plan rooms and furniture-like islands. Those are meaningful design and cleaning advantages, but they do not establish better cooking performance or lower energy use than ordinary induction.
Industry signals point to an emerging design direction, not worldwide dominance. A 2025 KBIS trend report discussed concealed induction as an advancing kitchen-design idea, while an NKBA survey reported that 17% of surveyed designers expected invisible-in-counter induction to become popular over the following three years. That is an expectation, not a measure of current household adoption. KBIS 2025 trend report · NKBA 2024 design trends research
How the main concealed-cooking approaches differ
| Approach | Surface and system | Best fit | Main constraint |
|---|---|---|---|
| Invisacook-style module | Separate induction module below approved porcelain or similar slabs | New islands and custom remodels with coordinated slab fabrication | Exact slab, thickness, clearances, electrical work, and cabinet layout must be approved |
| TPB Tech | Integrated technological worktop with induction built into the surface system | Bespoke kitchens and projects where the surface and cooking system are specified together | Not simply a hidden module for any existing countertop; requires vendor coordination |
| Novy Undercover | Induction beneath a compatible 20 mm Dekton worktop | Premium projects with the specified Dekton setup and local dealer support | Tied to a specific worktop specification and dealer ecosystem |
| Flush-mounted visible induction | Conventional visible glass hob set flush or integrated neatly into the counter | Minimalist designs that still prioritize appliance access and straightforward servicing | The cooking surface remains visible |
| Portable induction | Self-contained countertop appliance | Temporary, secondary, or budget-conscious cooking needs | Does not create a seamless built-in island |
| Ki wireless kitchen power | Emerging standard for powering cordless appliances; concealed cooktops are planned for a later Ki 2.0 version | Future-oriented appliance ecosystems | Ki says initial products are expected by the end of 2026 or early 2027; that is not evidence of a mature concealed-cooktop category today |

- Induction stoves rely on cookware to heat, so it’s essential to choose magnetic bottom cookware with a minimum diameter of 5 inches. Auto-pan detection will shut off automatically after 60 seconds if no cookware, or the incorrect cookware is detected
- Although induction itself is a noiseless process, there may be high pitched sounds from the cookware due to multiple layers of metals sandwiched together. Please allow the induction cooker to cool down before cleaning
- Invisacook’s California product information lists 12–20 mm for its described configurations, and one product listing specifies 12 mm Magnifica porcelain. That listing warns that popular quartz and natural marble are not supported for that product.
- Novy Undercover is designed for a compatible 20 mm Dekton worktop.
- TPB Tech supplies an integrated technological surface, rather than a generic module intended for any existing counter.
Before committing, obtain written compatibility confirmation from both the cooktop vendor and the countertop manufacturer or fabricator for the exact slab, thickness, and installation. Invisacook’s installation manual also specifies countertop thickness and minimum distances from edges; fabrication cannot be treated as an afterthought.
Cookware, output, and everyday cooking
Check that pans are magnetic
Cast iron and magnetic stainless steel generally work. Aluminum, copper, glass, and nonmagnetic stainless steel generally do not unless the pan has a suitable magnetic base. A magnet that attaches firmly to the pan bottom is a useful first check, but it does not guarantee compatibility with a particular system. Novy recommends magnetic cookware with round bases of roughly 12–28 cm and advises against thin enameled pans because of overheating risk. Check the selected product’s instructions, especially for unusually large, warped, thin, or non-round pans. Novy’s cookware guidance
Read power figures as specifications, not comparative test results
Published ratings show that concealed systems can be configured for ordinary multi-pan cooking, but figures from different products are not a standardized performance comparison. Invisacook’s one-burner listing gives 1,200 W on a grounded 110/120 V connection. Its California page says most multi-burner systems require 220 V/30 A, the five-burner model lists 50 A, and some one- and two-burner versions are available in 110 V. Novy’s 2026 catalogue lists 7,400 W total connected load and boosted zones up to 3,700 W. A connected-load maximum is not the same as every zone delivering full power at once; the circuit, power management, cookware, and control logic affect use. Heat, indicators, and safety in a visually seamless surface
Induction avoids open flames and exposed electric heating elements, but a concealed cooking zone is not risk-free. The pan heats, and residual heat can transfer back into the countertop. Because a visually hidden zone gives less obvious feedback than a conventional hob, clear active- and residual-heat indicators, intuitive controls, and household operating habits matter.
- Follow the model’s rules for pan placement, cookware size, empty-pan heating, and temperature limits.
- Confirm how active zones and residual heat are indicated; Novy’s 2026 catalogue lists residual-heat indication, pot recognition, a safety lock, and temperature protection among its features.
- Keep children, pets, and visitors from assuming that a seamless surface is inactive or cool.
- Check the manufacturer’s instructions for magnetic-field precautions and medical-device guidance.
- Have the fabricator inspect the slab for cracks, chips, and defects before installation, particularly around unsupported edges and cutouts.

Concealed induction is usually a new-build or remodel decision, not a countertop appliance to add casually. The modules occupy cabinet space, and the worktop, electrical supply, ventilation, and service access all need to work together.
- Choose the system and exact slab together. Confirm the countertop brand, specification, thickness, reinforcement, and warranty with both vendors before fabrication.
- Lay out zones and clearances. Keep cooking positions within the product’s edge and cutout rules; decide where cookware will sit and how users will identify the zones.
- Coordinate cabinet space. Check drawers, cross-bracing, sinks, ovens, rails, module depth, cooling needs, and access for future service.
- Confirm electrical capacity early. Have a qualified electrician verify the required voltage, amperage, circuit, and local code requirements before cabinets and the island are finalized.
- Plan controls and ventilation. Specify controller location and indicators. Cooking still produces steam, smoke, grease, and odor, so determine whether a hood, downdraft, or other extraction is needed.
- Assign responsibility for fabrication and commissioning. Make clear who verifies slab compatibility, edge distances, mounting, electrical connection, testing, and warranty documentation.
Invisacook says its systems can mount on cabinet rails or clips beneath the counter, but that does not remove the need for coordinated fabrication and electrical provision. Invisacook installation information The continued need for extraction is also visible in LG’s 2026 built-in kitchen announcement, which pairs induction with downdraft ventilation. Can you retrofit one into an existing kitchen?
Sometimes, but the retrofit may be closer to an island rebuild than an appliance swap. It can require a new approved countertop, altered cabinetry, a new high-capacity circuit, relocated drawers or supports, cooling and service access, and new cookware. A one- or two-burner module may be more practical than a full cooking zone for a bar, secondary kitchen, RV, or boat, but the selected product still has to suit the site and its electrical supply.
Replacement is another consideration: a conventional hob is generally a discrete appliance, while a concealed system is integrated with the slab, cabinet, controls, and electrical installation. Ask who will service the unit locally and what happens if the worktop is damaged or the module needs replacement.
What does invisible induction cost?
Published module prices are not installed-project prices. During the 2026 pricing snapshot in the source information, Invisacook’s product collection displayed $1,750 for two burners, $2,500 for three, $2,800 for four, and $3,500 for five; its one-burner product listing showed $1,100. These are displayed product prices, not a quote for a completed kitchen. Invisacook product collection · One-burner product listing
Novy says its price varies by country and number of cooking zones; the cited official information does not establish a universal retail price. TPB Tech routes buyers through a quote/order process rather than listing a standard retail price. For either, get a project-specific quote. Novy Undercover FAQ · TPB Tech product information
Budget the full scope rather than comparing module prices alone:
- Approved countertop slab and fabrication
- Induction modules, controls, mounting hardware, and shipping
- Cabinet modifications and installation labor
- Electrical work and any panel or circuit changes
- Ventilation and any required cookware or accessories
- Local dealer support, commissioning, and future service
Who should choose concealed induction?
It may suit a project when
- A new countertop or custom island is already planned.
- A continuous, furniture-like surface is a major design priority.
- The exact approved slab, electrical capacity, cabinet depth, and ventilation can be coordinated.
- The household is comfortable with hidden controls, zone placement, and the product’s cookware rules.
- Local service and countertop warranty responsibilities are clear.
Conventional induction is likely the more practical choice when
- The existing countertop is staying in place, or total installed cost is the priority.
- Easy replacement, familiar visible controls, or straightforward servicing matters more than a seamless island.
- The household relies on unusual cookware or oversized pans.
- The kitchen is rented, temporary, or likely to be remodeled again soon.
A flush-mounted visible hob can provide a restrained look with less countertop integration risk; a portable induction burner can add temporary capacity without remodeling. For most buyers, concealed induction is an architectural upgrade to the room, not a universally superior cooking appliance.
