There is no single monitoring system that works with every MPP Solar inverter. The correct app or accessory depends on the exact model, whether it is off-grid or hybrid, its production date, communications port, Wi-Fi hardware, and whether you need simple monitoring or remote parameter control.
For compatible newer systems, MPP Solar lists Energy-Mate as the current mobile monitoring option. WatchPower and SolarPower remain important for older supported systems but are listed as legacy applications. Hybrid installations may instead require SolarPower Pro, while Wi-Fi Box, SNMP and Modbus hardware provide browser, IT or building-management integration.
Identify the inverter before choosing software
Start by recording the following information from the inverter label, display and installation records:
- Exact model number and rated voltage.
- Whether the unit is off-grid or hybrid.
- Serial number and production date, if available.
- Single-inverter or parallel installation.
- Battery chemistry, voltage and BMS connection.
- Available communications hardware: built-in Wi-Fi, detachable Wi-Fi module, Wi-Fi Box, SNMP card, Modbus card, RS-232, USB or RS-485.
MPP Solar separates its downloads by product family and monitoring system. The exact model manual is authoritative because supported parameters, ports, cable pinouts and software vary between inverter families. Check the MPP Solar download center before installing an application or buying an accessory.

Energy-Mate: setup and daily use
Energy-Mate is intended for compatible MPP Solar off-grid and hybrid systems. MPP Solar’s compatibility information excludes some high-voltage and newer hybrid models. It also states that inverters produced before September 2019 are not supported by the referenced Energy-Mate Wi-Fi module, while some models require post-September-2019 hardware. Verify the exact model rather than assuming that a newer app will work.
You will generally need a compatible Wi-Fi module, the correct communications cable, a smartphone, an internet-connected router and a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. The documented setup does not support a 5 GHz-only network.
- Install Energy-Mate from the applicable mobile app store.
- Open the app and select Register.
- Enter the required account details.
- Scan or manually enter the Wi-Fi module or inverter product number.
- Open the personal-center or Me area and select network configuration.
- Connect the phone to the Wi-Fi module’s temporary hotspot.
- For an unconfigured module, the manual documents
12345678as the default hotspot password. Treat this as a legacy setup value, not a secure permanent password. - Select the household router’s 2.4 GHz network and enter its password.
- Confirm the configuration and run network diagnosis.
- Log in again, open the device list and confirm that the inverter is online.
Depending on the inverter, Energy-Mate can show PV production, battery status, load, grid or generator flow, real-time power flow, daily/monthly/annual energy, charging and discharging, alarms, five-minute records, data-collector status and supported parameters. The available screens and controls are model-dependent. See the Energy-Mate manual.
WatchPower and SolarPower for older systems
WatchPower Wi-Fi
WatchPower is primarily associated with compatible off-grid and older MPP Solar systems. The legacy Wi-Fi workflow uses a Wi-Fi module, the correct RJ45-to-RS-232 cable, an inverter communications port, a router and the WatchPower application.
- Install the model-compatible WatchPower software or app.
- Register an account and enter or scan the Wi-Fi module product number.
- Connect the phone to the module’s temporary hotspot.
- Use the documented default hotspot password
12345678only if the module has not been reconfigured. - Select the local router, enter its password and confirm.
- Run network diagnostics and confirm that the inverter appears online.
Legacy modules commonly show separate indicators for PWR power, COM inverter communication, NET router connection and SRV internet or server connection. A module can therefore have internet access while still failing to communicate with the inverter. Refer to the WatchPower Wi-Fi manual.

- The WiFi module uploads cloud data not in real-time, but every five minutes. Therefore, the data observed on the mobile app is likely to be different from the data displayed on the all-in-one device. It is important to note that
- If there is a situation where "you can't install it, as it says it already exists and will not appear in my application", please provide the wifi PN code to have the supplier cancel the registration information and then rebind it
- Simple replacement loss: external plug type, no need to disassemble the equipment, safe and fast; Simple installation: plug and play
- Note that the PN code for WIFI-HF usually starts with Q00, QA520, QA521, etc. The APP used for this WiFi module is SmartESS. A WiFi module with a PN code starting with E6 was released later, which uses SmartValue instead of SmartESS. If used incorrectly, it may cause the WiFi module to not function properly. Please distinguish and check if the APP is used correctly when encountering WiFi issues with WIFI-HF
WatchPower desktop connection
For the documented WatchPower defaults, begin with:
- Baud rate:
19200 - Data bits:
8 - Stop bits:
1 - Parity:
NONE - Default inverter device ID:
1
Connect the correct cable, select the actual computer COM port, enter the communication settings and confirm the device connects. Then review live readings, logs, alarms and fault records. The exact model manual takes precedence over these defaults. WatchPower may expose charging priorities, battery settings, output behavior, utility or generator settings, time, operating modes and parallel settings.
SolarPower serves compatible hybrid families and should not be treated as interchangeable with WatchPower. MPP Solar provides separate SolarPower downloads and manuals for different hybrid models through its download center.
Wi-Fi Box, SolarPower Pro, SNMP and Modbus
Wi-Fi Box
The older Wi-Fi Box provides browser and cloud monitoring for supported systems. A typical initial setup is:
- Attach the antenna and connect the data cable to the inverter.
- Power the Wi-Fi Box.
- Connect a phone or laptop to the temporary
wificardaccess point. - Use the documented default password
openif the device has not been reconfigured. - Open
wificard.netor192.168.1.1. - Set the time zone and daylight-saving options.
- Add the local wireless network, select station mode and apply the settings.
- After the documented restart, open the assigned IP address and register with the monitoring service.
MPP Solar describes support for multiple units in certain parallel off-grid and entry-level hybrid systems, but MPI hybrid installations may require one box per inverter. See the Wi-Fi Box information and configuration manual.

Do not expose these services directly to the public internet simply by forwarding ports. Use a VPN, firewall restrictions or a properly secured vendor-supported remote-access method. Consult the SolarPower Pro manual.
SNMP and Modbus
SNMP cards and boxes suit IT teams, facilities and server-room monitoring. Modbus cards or servers are more appropriate for energy-management systems, building automation, Home Assistant-style integrations and custom dashboards. These solutions normally require network knowledge, addressing, register mapping and sometimes a separate energy meter for accurate import/export measurement. MPP Solar lists relevant hardware and software in its monitoring downloads.
What to monitor
Daily
- Online status and current operating mode.
- PV power during daylight.
- Battery state of charge or voltage.
- Load power and unusual idle consumption.
- Grid or generator input, where fitted.
- New alarms or faults.
Weekly and monthly
- PV production compared with weather and season.
- Battery charging, discharging and cycling.
- Grid import/export or generator runtime.
- Repeated warnings, communication gaps and data holes.
- Inverter clock, time zone, app version and firmware information.
Compare cloud readings with the inverter’s local display. If the local display is normal but the app is stale, the likely issue is communications or cloud reporting rather than power conversion.
Change settings safely
Monitoring and management are not the same thing. A system may allow you to view data and alarms without allowing every parameter to be changed. Remote control may include configuration, charging schedules, operating priority, load control or export behavior, depending on the model.

- Used for our company's inverter, please confirm with seller before placing order
- Allows to access historic data in centralized.
- Access inverter for remote monitoring and controlling via APP.
- Wi-Fi module can enable wireless communication between off-grid inverters and monitoring platform.
- it can not only monitor the inverters' operation status, but also set up parameters of the inverters through your mobile phone.
Before changing anything:
- Photograph or export the existing settings.
- Record the date, time and reason for the change.
- Check the battery manufacturer’s limits and the exact inverter manual.
- Change one setting at a time.
- Apply the change and wait for acknowledgement.
- Observe the system through the relevant operating cycle.
- Restore the original value if behavior is unexpected.
Use particular caution with maximum charging current, AC charging current, charge voltage, float voltage, battery cutoff, recovery voltage, discharge current, BMS enablement, generator mode, grid-feed settings, parallel operation, output priority, time-of-use schedules and restore-to-default commands.
Do not use universal battery voltage values. Correct settings depend on chemistry, series count, temperature, manufacturer limits, BMS requirements and the exact inverter. Incorrect values can cause nuisance shutdowns, poor charging, battery stress or BMS faults.

Work through the three communication links separately:
- Inverter to module: power, cable, pinout, port, model selection and device address.
- Module to router: Wi-Fi band, signal strength, SSID and password.
- Router to cloud or service: internet connection, server access and account registration.
The app cannot find the module
- Confirm that the module is powered and the correct app is installed.
- Check compatibility, production date and module product number.
- During setup, connect to the module hotspot rather than the home router.
- Use a 2.4 GHz network where required.
- Check the communications cable and pinout.
- Re-enter the router credentials and run network diagnosis.
The module is online but inverter data is missing
Check the selected inverter model, device address, cable, port compatibility and parallel-system addressing. A router connection does not prove that serial communication with the inverter is working. An unsupported production revision can produce the same symptom.

Data is stale or intermittent
Look for weak Wi-Fi, router band steering, a changed password, a new router, internet outages, module compatibility problems, inverter sleep or shutdown, incorrect time zone and serial communication errors. Check the local display before concluding that the inverter has failed.
An alarm or fault is displayed
- Record the exact code and timestamp.
- Capture battery voltage or SOC, PV voltage, AC input, load and temperature.
- Check whether the fault repeats.
- Consult the exact model manual.
- Do not clear the fault before recording it.
- Do not repeatedly power-cycle unexplained battery, insulation, overtemperature or high-voltage faults.
Parallel installations and older hardware
Parallel systems require extra care. Do not assume one device ID, cable or Wi-Fi module will serve every inverter. WatchPower documents multiple Modbus networks and device IDs. MPP Solar states that the Energy-Mate module supports one inverter at a time, while the Wi-Fi Box supports multiple units only in specified configurations. Confirm addressing, accessory count and wiring in the parallel-system manual.
Energy-Mate is not a universal upgrade path. MPP Solar’s compatibility information excludes some high-voltage and hybrid categories, and older production units may require legacy WatchPower, SolarPower or Wi-Fi Box hardware. If an older inverter works locally but cannot be added to Energy-Mate, that is a compatibility limitation—not proof of an inverter fault.
