Partly true: LG’s 2025 OLED evo range adds AI-powered picture, sound, voice, personalization, and webOS features, but 165Hz is not available across every model. The headline mainly describes the LG G5, and even then only selected screen sizes. The C5 reaches 144Hz, the M5 reaches 144Hz or 120Hz depending on size, and the standard OLED B5 tops out at 120Hz.
The 2025 LG OLED lineup at a glance
LG’s premium 2025 OLED evo families are the wireless M5, flagship G5, and mainstream premium C5. The B5 is also an important 2025 OLED, but it is positioned separately from the OLED evo range.

LG identifies the M5, G5, and C5 as its 2025 OLED evo models, with the B5 listed as a conventional OLED series in its global lineup material (LG lineup announcement).
What LG’s AI features actually do
“AI” is not one single capability on these televisions. It describes several processor and webOS features, and availability can vary by model, country, language, account, and software version.

AI picture processing
AI Picture Pro analyzes the incoming image and attempts to optimize perceived detail, depth, color, and clarity. The G5 and M5 use LG’s α11 AI Processor Gen2; the C5 uses the α9 AI Processor 4K Gen8; and the B5 uses the α8 AI Processor 4K Gen2, according to independent model testing (G5 review, C5 review, B5 review).
Processing can be useful for lower-quality streams, broadcast television, and compressed video. It is not automatically preferable for every film or game: viewers seeking an accurate image may prefer filmmaker or other less-processed picture modes.
AI sound processing
AI Sound Pro analyzes content and creates a virtualized multichannel presentation. LG describes support for virtual 11.1.2-channel processing on higher-end 2025 models. The B5 does not include every premium audio feature, and independent coverage specifically notes that it lacks AI Sound Pro.

Voice control, search, and personalization
LG’s 2025 webOS features include more personalized recommendations, natural-language voice interaction, voice search, and—on applicable models—a dedicated AI button on the remote. These functions may let users make requests such as changing picture characteristics rather than relying only on fixed commands.
Voice and personalization services may require an internet connection, an LG account, and a supported language or region. LG’s webOS Re:New program is intended to provide eligible smart-TV owners with updated TV experiences for five years, but that does not guarantee that every future feature will work on every model.

Which LG OLED actually supports 165Hz?
The G5 is the principal 2025 LG OLED associated with 4K/165Hz variable refresh rate. Independent testing confirms that the G5 supports up to 4K at 165Hz and has HDMI 2.1 features across all four ports (RTINGS’ G5 specifications).

However, screen size matters. In LG’s cited regional specification material:
- G5 55-, 65-, 77-, and 83-inch models: up to 4K/165Hz.
- G5 48-inch model: up to 144Hz.
- G5 97-inch model: 120Hz.
- C5: up to 4K/144Hz.
- M5: 144Hz on 65-, 77-, and 83-inch models; 120Hz on the 97-inch model.
- B5: up to 120Hz.
The exact specification can vary by region and model suffix, so verify the product page for the precise screen size before buying. LG’s size-by-size information is published in its M5 and G5 release material.
165Hz versus 144Hz: who will notice?
A higher refresh rate does not create extra frames. It allows the display to show them when the source device can deliver them.

165Hz is mainly relevant to a high-end gaming PC capable of producing more than 120 frames per second at 4K. You need:
- A graphics card and game settings capable of exceeding 120fps at 4K.
- A compatible HDMI 2.1 connection and suitable high-bandwidth cable.
- 4K resolution and 165Hz selected in the computer’s display settings where supported.
- VRR enabled on both the TV and the graphics card.
- Compatible NVIDIA G-SYNC or AMD FreeSync support, where applicable.
Game-engine limits, GPU performance, Windows settings, cable problems, and the selected TV size can all prevent 165Hz from operating. A 165Hz mode can also have different image-processing, HDR, or latency behavior from 120Hz, so mode-specific testing and firmware matter.
Console owners
PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S gaming generally operates within a 120Hz ceiling for 4K output. For most console users, the difference between 120Hz, 144Hz, and 165Hz will therefore not materially change gameplay. HDR brightness, input lag, VRR behavior, and game-mode performance are more consequential factors (Tom’s Guide’s G5/C5 comparison).
Movies, streaming, and television
Refresh rates above 120Hz are not a meaningful reason for most movie or streaming viewers to choose the G5. Room brightness, reflections, screen size, seating distance, HDR performance, and picture accuracy are likely to matter more.

G5 versus C5, B5, and M5
Choose the G5 for brightness and high-end PC gaming
The G5 is the strongest choice when you want the brightest and most advanced LG OLED panel, have a bright room, or own a PC capable of using 4K refresh rates above 144Hz. Its wall-oriented design and Primary RGB Tandem OLED technology are also part of the premium proposition.

LG claims that the G5 can be up to 45% brighter than previous models under its stated comparison conditions. Treat that as a manufacturer claim, not a universal brightness result (LG OLED evo overview). The 97-inch G5 is a notable exception for anyone specifically seeking 165Hz because its listed ceiling is 120Hz.
Choose the C5 for the best balance for most buyers
The C5 offers OLED black levels, premium processing, HDMI 2.1 gaming support, AI features, and up to 4K/144Hz at a lower position in the range. It is the sensible fit for mixed use—films, streaming, sports, and PC or console gaming—when the G5’s extra brightness and 165Hz capability are not essential. Independent testing lists 4K/144Hz support on all ports (RTINGS’ C5 review).
Choose the B5 for value
The B5 is a credible lower-cost OLED option if 4K/120Hz is sufficient and you can accept less premium processing, brightness, and audio functionality. It should not be described as a 165Hz OLED evo model.

The M5 sends audio and video wirelessly through a separate Zero Connect Box. That can simplify a wall-mounted installation, but the box still needs power and suitable placement, and the television does not match the G5’s maximum refresh rate. Choose it for the installation concept—not for 165Hz.
Launch pricing is not current pricing
LG’s March 2025 U.S. launch materials listed the 65-inch G5 at $3,399 and the 65-inch C5 at $2,699. Other launch MSRPs included $2,599 for the 55-inch G5, $1,999 for the 55-inch C5, $4,499 for the 77-inch G5, $3,699 for the 77-inch C5, $6,499 for the 83-inch G5, $5,399 for the 83-inch C5, and $24,999 for the 97-inch G5.
Those are launch MSRPs, not verified September 2026 retail prices. Compare the current street price for the exact model and size rather than using the original announcement price as a buying recommendation. See LG’s U.S. launch pricing document for the historical figures.
Buying checklist
- Confirm the exact size and suffix. Do not assume every G5, M5, or regional variant has the same refresh-rate ceiling.
- Check the regional LG specification page. Tuners, stands, remotes, warranties, AI services, and included mounting hardware can vary.
- Match the TV to your source. A 165Hz G5 only helps if your PC, game, cable, and settings can deliver it.
- Enable VRR correctly. Check the TV’s game settings and the GPU control panel.
- Prioritize the room. Brightness, reflections, viewing distance, and screen size may matter more than 144Hz versus 165Hz.
- Consider long-term OLED use. OLED panels remain susceptible to image retention and burn-in risk with prolonged static content; usage patterns matter more than the refresh-rate headline.
Bottom line
LG’s 2025 OLED evo televisions do add a substantial set of AI-branded picture, sound, voice, personalization, and software features. But the 165Hz claim is overbroad: it chiefly applies to selected sizes of the G5. The C5 is a 144Hz model, the M5 varies between 144Hz and 120Hz, and the B5 is a 120Hz standard OLED.
Choose the G5 for maximum brightness, premium design, and high-end PC gaming; the C5 for the best all-round balance; the B5 for lower-cost OLED; and the M5 when a wireless installation is the priority.
