Wyze’s Lock Bolt v2 adds built-in Wi-Fi to the company’s fingerprint-enabled deadbolt line while retaining the predecessor’s regular $79.98 list price. Wyze announced the lock on November 18, 2025. The important qualification is that this is a new full deadbolt replacement—not a Wi-Fi upgrade for an existing Lock Bolt—and it only fits compatible single-cylinder deadbolt installations.
It also requires a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network, a phone with Bluetooth, and the Wyze app. Before buying, measure the door and confirm that its lock type matches Wyze’s requirements.
The short version
The Wyze Lock Bolt v2 is a battery-powered smart deadbolt with fingerprint recognition, keypad codes, physical-key backup, app control, and built-in Wi-Fi. That Wi-Fi enables remote lock and unlock commands, status monitoring, and notifications without the separate gateway used by the original Wyze Lock.

The original Lock Bolt was temporarily listed at $74.98, reduced from $79.98. Therefore, the accurate comparison is “Wi-Fi added at the predecessor’s regular list price,” not “the v2 is currently cheaper than v1.”
What changed from Lock Bolt v1?
- Built-in Wi-Fi: The v2 supports remote app control, status monitoring, and Wi-Fi notifications without a separate gateway.
- Redesigned exterior: Wyze lists anti-glare tempered glass, with a black matte finish and aluminum-and-glass construction.
- Fingerprint entry: Wyze describes an AI self-learning fingerprint scanner and claims unlocking in approximately 0.3 to 0.5 seconds. Its own materials cite both figures, so neither should be treated as an independently tested result.
- More access options: The lock supports up to 50 access codes, including scheduled one-time guest codes.
- Physical-key backup: Unlike the original Lock Bolt listed in Wyze’s comparison chart, the v2 includes a traditional key option.
- Emergency power: A USB-C port can temporarily power the lock if its AA batteries are depleted. Wyze says the cable is not included.
- Doorbell integration: Compatible Wyze video doorbells can provide livestream access through the lock experience, subject to Wyze’s supported integrations.
The trade-off is battery life on paper: Wyze lists the v1 at up to 12 months and the Wi-Fi-equipped v2 at up to eight months under its stated usage assumption of about 10 lock/unlock events per day. These are manufacturer estimates, not guaranteed real-world results.
Built-in Wi-Fi does not mean unlimited offline control
The Lock Bolt v2 uses Bluetooth 5.3 for setup and nearby communication, then connects to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi for network functionality. It supports 802.11b/g/n and is listed as compatible with Wi-Fi 4, 5, and 6 networks.
A 5GHz-only router will not work. During setup, select the router’s 2.4GHz network and enter its password. If a mesh system combines bands under one network name and pairing fails, temporarily exposing or separating the 2.4GHz network may help, although that is a practical troubleshooting step rather than a stated requirement for every mesh system.
When the internet is unavailable, remote app control, cloud-dependent status updates, and notifications may not work. Wyze says certain local features—including Lock After Hours—continue without an internet connection. That does not justify describing the lock as fully offline-capable.
Because the lock runs on batteries, a household power outage does not automatically disable its mechanical or local functions. However, remote access and notifications can still be affected if the home network or internet connection is down.
Check the door before ordering
Wyze says the Lock Bolt v2 fits most standard U.S. doors measuring 35–55mm thick and replaces an existing single-cylinder deadbolt. It is not a universal replacement.
It may be unsuitable for:
- Doors thinner than 35mm.
- Mortise or multipoint locking systems.
- Integrated lock-and-handle designs.
- Dutch doors.
- Some rim-cylinder configurations.
Nonstandard doors may require drilling, chiseling, or other modifications. A rim-cylinder installation may need additional tools or drilling. Review Wyze’s compatibility guide and compare the existing deadbolt before purchasing. Do not force the installation if the lock body, bore, backset, or door thickness does not match.

Auto-lock includes an adjustable delay. Wyze also lists Lock After Hours, a local function that can automatically lock at configured times without requiring an internet connection.
Wyze says fingerprint data is stored locally on the device and “never in the cloud.” That is a manufacturer security claim, not evidence of an independent security audit. Local biometric storage can reduce one category of cloud exposure, but it does not make the Wyze account, app, Wi-Fi network, or entire lock system breach-proof. Buyers who are uncomfortable enrolling biometric data should use codes and retain the physical-key fallback.

Wyze lists Alexa, Google Assistant, and Wyze Automations support. The supplied information does not confirm Matter, Apple Home, or Home Assistant compatibility, so buyers who depend on those platforms should verify support before ordering.
Installation and setup
The lock is a full single-cylinder deadbolt replacement rather than a retrofit mechanism that preserves the existing exterior hardware. Installation requirements vary by door, so consult Wyze’s installation guide before beginning.
Wyze’s documented app setup is:
- Connect the phone to mobile data or Wi-Fi and enable Bluetooth.
- On iOS, enable Location permissions. On Android 12 or newer, enable Nearby permissions.
- Remain within approximately 16 feet of the lock.
- Open the Wyze app and select Home → + → Device → Home → Wyze Lock Bolt v2.
- Choose whether to install the lock first or skip installation.
- Press and hold the lock’s RESET button for eight seconds.
- Wait for the status light to pulse red and then turn solid green. Wyze says this can take up to 30 seconds.
- Confirm the beeping prompt in the app and allow Bluetooth and location access if requested.
- Let the app pair with the lock.
- Select Yes to connect Wi-Fi, or choose No, I Will Connect Manually.
- Select the 2.4GHz network and enter its password.
- Calibrate the lock, create an access code, and add a fingerprint.
- Tap Done.
The lock requires Wyze app version 3.8 or newer, Android 10 or newer, or iOS 16 or newer.
Battery, weather resistance, and physical specifications
Eight AA batteries are included. Wyze rates battery life at up to eight months under normal use of roughly 10 lock/unlock events per day. Actual life can vary with Wi-Fi strength, temperature, usage, and door alignment.
If the batteries run out, connect a USB-C power bank to the emergency-power port, then use an access code or another supported entry method. Wyze says the USB-C cable is not included.
The lock is rated IP53, which means weather resistance—not proof that it is waterproof or appropriate for every fully exposed exterior door. Wyze lists a one-year warranty.
Published dimensions are:
- Exterior assembly: 6.16 × 2.83 × 0.68 inches.
- Interior assembly: 7.09 × 2.93 × 1.41 inches.
- Weight with batteries: 2.5 pounds, or 34.4 ounces.
Practical troubleshooting
If the lock does not appear during setup
Confirm Bluetooth is enabled, Location or Nearby permissions are allowed, the Wyze app meets the minimum version, and the phone is within about 16 feet. Restarting the app and checking that the lock is in its reset state can also help.

If Wi-Fi pairing fails
Confirm that the router broadcasts a 2.4GHz network and that the password is correct. A 5GHz-only network is incompatible. Mesh-network band steering may require temporarily exposing the 2.4GHz band.

If the lock jams or strains
Check the mechanical alignment of the deadbolt, strike plate, and door before troubleshooting Wi-Fi or batteries. A smart lock cannot compensate for a door that must be pushed, lifted, or pulled to operate.
If the batteries are empty
Use a power bank with the USB-C emergency-power port, then unlock the door with a code or another supported method. Keep a physical key available when practical.
If the door is incompatible
Do not force a mortise, multipoint, Dutch-door, undersized, or otherwise nonmatching installation. Choose a compatible lock type or consult a qualified locksmith.

Tom’s Guide reported that the Palm Lock worked well and was competitively priced, but noted limited smart-home support to Alexa and Google Home. That model costs about $50 more than the v2 at the observed Wyze prices and has a shorter listed battery rating.
Readers who do not want to replace the exterior deadbolt should consider retrofit-style locks. Buyers whose homes depend on Apple Home, Matter, Home Assistant, stronger weather protection, rechargeable batteries, or a longer warranty should verify those requirements against alternatives before choosing the Wyze model. No outside competitor is named here as categorically better because current price, stock, compatibility, platform support, and warranty terms require product-specific verification.
Verdict
The Wyze Lock Bolt v2 is a strong value proposition for a homeowner or renter with a compatible 35–55mm single-cylinder deadbolt who wants remote access, fingerprints, guest codes, and a physical-key backup at a $79.98 regular list price. Its built-in Wi-Fi is the meaningful improvement over the original Lock Bolt, and no separate gateway is listed as required.
It is a poor fit for mortise or multipoint doors, retrofit-only installations, 5GHz-only networks, exposed locations where IP53 is insufficient, or smart homes that require an unverified platform such as Matter or Apple Home. Treat the battery figure and fingerprint speed as Wyze’s claims, and remember that remote features depend on the network and app/cloud connection.
For compatible doors, the headline is essentially accurate—but the precise story is that Wyze introduced a new Wi-Fi-equipped Lock Bolt v2 at the predecessor’s regular price, not that an existing Wyze lock received a software upgrade.
