Installation: the faucet is the make-or-break issue

- Measure the counter, cabinet clearance, door clearance, and distance to the sink.
- Confirm that the faucet has a removable aerator compatible with the supplied adapter.
- Place the dishwasher close enough for the inlet and drain hoses to reach without kinks.
- Attach the inlet hose and secure the drain hose in the sink.
- Run a short rinse or test cycle while watching every connection.
- Keep the drain hose from slipping, spraying, or falling into the sink.
- Disconnect and dry the hoses before moving or storing the appliance.
Danby says its adapter is designed for standard North American faucets and is compatible with most kitchen faucets, not all faucets. Tank models
A tank model avoids the faucet-adapter problem but requires manual filling. Check the tank’s fill opening, how easily it can be cleaned, whether a pitcher is included, how much counter space is needed to reach it, and whether the drain hose can discharge safely into a sink or suitable container.
Cleaning, drying, noise, and water use
Cleaning
Harder soils reveal more than a quick cycle with lightly soiled plates. A meaningful comparison should use dried oatmeal or tomato sauce, dried egg or starch, greasy cutlery, coffee or milk residue, plastic containers, and leafy food such as spinach. If dishes remain wet, use rinse aid when the manual permits it and leave the door slightly open after the cycle if the manufacturer allows that practice. Never interpret a baby-care cycle as sterilization without verified temperature and certification evidence.
Noise
Danby lists 54 dBA and Midea lists 52 dBA. Those manufacturer figures were not necessarily measured under the same conditions, so they cannot by themselves establish which unit is quieter. A fair test uses the same meter position, room, surface, and operating stage, reporting both average wash noise and peak fill or drain noise.
Water and energy
Danby states up to 3.1 gallons per wash and identifies the DDW631SDB as ENERGY STAR certified. Midea lists 1.6 to 3.8 gallons depending on cycle or conditions. These are not interchangeable annual-cost figures. To estimate operating cost, record the actual cycle, water volume, electricity use, local utility rates, and number of cycles per week.

- Filter: Remove and rinse food debris as directed by the manual.
- Spray arm: Check the holes for particles or mineral buildup.
- Door gasket: Wipe it regularly to prevent residue and odors.
- Hard water: Use rinse aid and descale according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Danby says salt is not required for operation but recommends salt and rinse aid.
- Hoses: Inspect inlet and drain connections for cracks, looseness, or trapped debris.
