Nosh Robotics’ $1,500 Robot Chef Automates Cooking—But Not Dinner

The Nosh One is an automated, recipe-driven countertop cooker—not a general-purpose robot chef. It can dispense ingredients, stir, heat and monitor selected one-pot recipes with little or no active supervision. But users still have to shop, prepare and portion ingredients, load the machine, fill its reservoirs, serve the food and clean removable parts afterward.

That makes Nosh potentially useful for soups, stews, curries and stir-fries, but its roughly $1,500 launch price, large footprint and unresolved delivery and support questions make it an expensive early-adopter purchase rather than an obvious replacement for a conventional multicooker.

What the Nosh One actually does

Nosh Robotics describes the Nosh One as an AI-powered cooking robot. Its contained countertop design combines an induction heater, cooking pan, stirrer, exhaust filter, water and oil reservoirs, spice tray and a five-compartment ingredient tray. The company’s US product page lists a 2,000-watt induction system and capacity for up to four servings.

The typical workflow is:

  1. Prepare and portion the ingredients.
  2. Place ingredients in the correct tray compartments.
  3. Fill the water and oil containers.
  4. Load spices into the spice tray.
  5. Install the tray and cooking pan.
  6. Select or customize a recipe in the app.
  7. Let the machine dispense ingredients, heat, stir and monitor the dish.
  8. Remove the food and clean the removable parts.

According to launch coverage reproducing The Verge’s report, the machine adds ingredients at scheduled points, stirs the food and uses a built-in camera to monitor cooking. The app can browse recipes, schedule meals and notify the user when food is ready.

The phrase “doesn’t need any help with dinner” therefore describes the cooking stage—not the entire meal-making process.

How autonomous is it?

Nosh removes several chores that normally require standing beside a pan: adding ingredients at the right time, stirring, controlling heat and checking progress. Its cooking chamber is also described as fully sealed, which may reduce splashes and fumes compared with an open pan.

It does not eliminate preparation. The company’s product material tells users to load chopped ingredients, so the machine should not be treated as a system that turns untouched groceries into dinner. You may still need to wash, peel, trim, chop, measure and divide food before loading it.

After cooking, the pan, stirrer, ingredient compartments, water and oil components and exhaust filter still require cleaning or rinsing at the appropriate intervals. “Hands-free cooking” is not the same as maintenance-free cooking.

What can it cook?

The strongest apparent use cases are saucy and one-pot meals, including:

  • Soups
  • Stews
  • Curries
  • Stir-fries
  • Other programmed one-pot dishes
  • Some pasta and similar recipes, where supported by Nosh’s recipe system

CNET’s preview coverage reported that Nosh can portion, roughly chop, cook and stir, but cannot bake, roast, boil as a standalone mode, sear conventionally or steam. It also reportedly cannot replace fine mincing or dicing.

That distinction matters because the company advertises more than 500 recipes on its US homepage, while other sections of the company’s site mention more than 120 dishes or more than 200 recipes. Those figures are inconsistent, and none should be interpreted as 500 fundamentally different cooking techniques. A large recipe library can still rely on a relatively narrow set of mechanical functions.

Nosh is not an oven, grill, air fryer or universal stovetop replacement. It is best understood as a specialized automated cooker for recipes designed around its hardware.

What users still have to do

The practical time saving depends on how much preparation your meals require. Nosh may remove 20 or 30 minutes of active cooking and supervision, but it will not necessarily remove 20 or 30 minutes of shopping, chopping and loading.

Users should expect to:

  • Buy the ingredients required by a supported recipe.
  • Wash, peel, trim or chop ingredients where necessary.
  • Measure ingredients into the correct tray compartments.
  • Load spices separately and fill water and oil reservoirs.
  • Check that the pan and stirrer are installed correctly.
  • Handle unsupported ingredients and recipes manually.
  • Remove and serve the finished meal.
  • Wash removable parts and maintain the exhaust filter.

Portion size, freshness, moisture and ingredient dimensions may also affect results. A programmed recipe is not a guarantee of a particular texture, level of browning or restaurant-quality outcome.

Specification Company-listed figure
Dimensions 525 × 460 × 550 mm
Weight Approximately 33 kg, or 73 lb
Heating 2,000-watt induction
Spice capacity Eight spice boxes
Water capacity 1,800 ml
Oil capacity 900 ml
Cooking capacity Up to four servings
Warranty shown One year

Those figures are not fully consistent across the available material. CNET reported a weight of about 57 lb and a footprint of roughly 21 by 17 inches. The difference could reflect a regional model, an earlier version or inconsistent specifications. Either way, the practical conclusion is clear: Nosh is a large, heavy countertop appliance that may need permanent space rather than daily cabinet storage.

The stated four-serving capacity may suit a couple or small household, but it is unlikely to replace batch cooking for a larger family. Nosh material also describes preparing two trays for sequential cooking; that does not mean the machine can cook two meals simultaneously.

App, internet and camera questions

The app is central to the advertised experience. It is used to browse recipes, edit recipes, schedule meals and receive completion notifications. Nosh’s site includes an FAQ question about whether the device can cook without the internet, but the accessible material does not provide a verified answer.

That means buyers should confirm before paying:

  • Whether an internet connection is required for normal cooking.
  • Which functions work during a Wi-Fi or app outage.
  • Whether recipes are stored locally or controlled through the company’s servers.
  • What data the built-in camera collects and how long it is retained.
  • What happens after a power failure or interrupted cooking cycle.

Claims about AI monitoring, self-cleaning, unattended safety or universal custom recipes should be treated as company claims unless supported by technical documentation or independent long-term testing.

Price, reservation terms and Kickstarter status

Launch coverage reported a Kickstarter starting price of $1,499. Earlier reporting mentioned an early-backer price of $1,200, while campaign material indicated an eventual list price of approximately $2,000. These are different offers and should not be presented as a single current retail price.

The Kickstarter campaign ran from February 24 through March 26, 2026. BackerTracker records show $845,792 raised from 729 backers—1,692% of a $50,000 goal.

That demonstrates demand and campaign funding, not completed mass production or dependable delivery. Backers and prospective buyers should distinguish between:

  • A crowdfunding pledge
  • A refundable reservation
  • A confirmed purchase
  • An expected retail price
  • Shipping, taxes and delivery charges
  • Any recipe or software subscription

Nosh’s current US pages also conflict on the reservation deposit: the reservation page advertises $29 fully refundable, while the main US homepage says $25. The same promotional material mentions $500 off, free shipping and six months of recipe access. Verify the exact terms before submitting payment, and do not treat a reservation as a guaranteed delivery date.

Is there a recipe subscription?

Campaign material described a Culinary+ service with recipe access and editing or creation limits. One campaign summary described a lifetime subscription valued at $180 per year, including editing 50 recipes and creating 50 personalized recipes annually. Those benefits may have applied to particular campaign tiers rather than every retail buyer.

The current US offer mentions six months of recipe access, but the available Nosh pages contain inconsistent subscription and warranty language. Confirm whether recipe access expires, which customization tools remain available without payment, and whether campaign benefits transfer to retail purchases.

Nosh One versus cheaper alternatives

Instant Pot or another multicooker

An Instant Pot or conventional multicooker is substantially cheaper, smaller and more established. It can pressure-cook, slow-cook, sauté and perform related functions without a proprietary recipe ecosystem. It does not automatically dispense ingredients or stir according to a programmed schedule.

Nosh’s premium is therefore for reduced supervision and sequencing, not necessarily broader cooking ability. For buyers who are comfortable adding ingredients themselves, a multicooker is likely the better-value choice.

Slow cooker

A slow cooker provides simple, inexpensive unattended cooking for soups, stews and similar meals. Nosh adds scheduled ingredient dispensing and stirring, but costs far more and occupies considerably more space.

Thermomix-style appliances

Thermomix-style systems generally offer a broader range of active cooking functions and guided recipes, but require more user involvement. Nosh is the better conceptual fit for someone prioritizing automation; a multifunction cooker is better for someone prioritizing versatility.

Posha

The Verge’s comparison described Posha as a similar product at roughly the same price, with a comparable automated workflow and design. The reported Nosh distinction was its fully sealed cooking chamber, which may help contain splashes and fumes. Neither product should be judged solely by recipe count; delivery record, repair support, cleaning demands and independent household results are more important.

Meal kits and prepared food

If the real goal is to save time rather than own a cooking robot, meal kits or prepared meals may be more predictable. They do not automate cooking in the same way, but they avoid the appliance’s purchase price, counter-space requirement and hardware risk.

Safety and reliability questions to answer first

Before buying or backing Nosh, ask the company for clear answers about:

  • Wrong-compartment loading and missing ingredients
  • Ingredient freshness, size and moisture variation
  • Stirrer jams and blocked mechanisms
  • Power, Wi-Fi or app failures during cooking
  • Allergen cross-contamination and cleaning procedures
  • Exterior temperatures and fire-safety certification
  • Whether users must remain nearby for specific recipes
  • Availability and price of spare pans, trays, stirrers and filters
  • Warranty coverage and repair logistics in your country
  • Voltage and electrical-standard compatibility

A sealed chamber may reduce mess, but it should not automatically be read as proof that the machine is safe to leave unattended in every situation. Food-safety responsibilities also remain with the user: ingredients must be stored correctly, loaded safely and consumed within appropriate limits.

Who should buy it?

Buyer Likely verdict
Busy household that regularly eats soups, stews, curries or stir-fries Potentially worthwhile if unattended cooking has high value
Small kitchen or limited counter space Poor fit
Cook who mainly bakes, roasts, grills, steams or sears Poor fit
Buyer wanting the lowest cost and broad utility Choose a multicooker
Buyer who wants broad guided cooking functions Consider a Thermomix-style appliance
Buyer requiring proven delivery, service and spare parts Wait for stronger evidence
Household with serious allergy concerns Wait for documented cross-contamination guidance

What remains unclear

The available information conflicts on recipe count, weight, dimensions, warranty length, reservation price, shipping timing and subscription benefits. Nosh also has US and India-facing material that may describe different versions or regional offers.

Most importantly, successful crowdfunding does not establish that final hardware has shipped at scale, performs reliably in ordinary homes or will receive long-term software and parts support. Those are the facts that should determine whether the Nosh One is a practical appliance rather than merely an appealing launch concept.

Bottom line

Nosh One could remove much of the active cooking work involved in a narrow but useful category of meals. It does not remove shopping, all preparation, serving or cleanup, and it cannot replace an oven or versatile stovetop.

At around $1,500 before any uncertain shipping, tax or subscription costs, it makes sense mainly for early adopters with permanent counter space who value unattended one-pot cooking more than flexibility. Everyone else should compare it with a far cheaper multicooker and wait for confirmed delivery, independent long-term reviews, clear warranty terms and reliable spare-parts support.
